I have a flight tomorrow at 12:15 out of LAX.

About how long does it take to drive considering traffic. Is it realistic for me to leave around 10am?

From Irvine? To LAX?

I'm assuming your flight leaves at 12:15 in the afternoon? Is it domestic? If so, I'd say be at LAX by 10:30; but from Irvine I'd leave at 9. You might get as far as downtown by 9:45 but then you'll get slowdown. As you're coming from the east, your best bet is to take the 105 fwy into LAX and get off at Sepulveda. I flew out of LAX two weeks ago and the last two miles took 20 minutes.

If you're going international, make each time I suggested one hour earlier.

I would leave from Irvine at 9am, it takes between 1-2 hours to get to LAX, then the parking, ticketing, & security is at least another hour. If you are going international, go at least an hour earlier.

you need to ARRIVE at LAX at least 2 hours before your flight. i arrived 1 hour 15 minutes before my last flight and missed it because the line was so long.

Leave around 8:00-8:30am. I wouldn't leave at 9am because you have to be at the check-in counter by 10:15am and I highly doubt you'll be able to fight traffic all the way to LAX, park, and be inside the airport in 1 hour 15 min.

I'm assuming this is an international flight?

i have to fly out of LAX, the closest airport is John Wayne but the flights are much more expensive. The car i'm driving is a rental so I just need to drop it off, that should save me some time.

So I'm confused now, is 9am ok? Or do i need to leave even earlier? I was told I needed to be at the aiport 1h 15m ahead of time, leaving at 9 would give me 2 hrs to drive to lax, drop off rental car and get to the counter.

FYI: I'm taking a domestic flight to Chicago.

I haven't commuted in years. LA/OC is all about driving time not distance.

I would leave no later than 8:00AM but look at the site I was kind enough to offer you,
first thing when I wake-up. Two good wrecks yank a knot in LA/OC traffic.

I'd go with this plan, I drive down the 405 from LA to Orange everyday. Takes me about and hour, but traffic is always worse going northbound.

i would third this plan... 8AM is still rush hour in orange county, so it'll take you about an hour or so to get to the South Bay area, which will be traffic until you reach Inglewood Blvd usually... from there it will be about 15 mins to get to the 105fwy... exit Sepulveda and you're home free...

also, i think somewhere right before Carson there's a electronic sign that tells you commute time to LAX and the 110 connector. if you have time, you can stop somewhere and get some grub.

I agree with the others that 9AM is a better choice. You'll probably spend about 45 minutes on the freeway just getting there (assuming reasonable traffic), but as I recall there's probably another 15 minutes of driving to get to the terminal. That'll give you two hours to get through baggage checking and security. You probably could leave at 10AM, but 9AM is the safer choice.

Depends what your flight is really... I was at LAX 50 min before my SOuthwest flight and I was group A boarding still. No lines at security, no lines at checkin (I self checked in also). Wewt. Security gave me no trouble, and I had a good nap at the gate....

I've seen horrendous lines at Tom Bradley Intl. Terminal before, but it just depends when and where you're flying..

This should be fine. Traffic REALLY starts to die down after 9. There's no real traffic until right after the airport on the 405. (okay, there's traffic, but it's really not that bad)

oh wait, just noticed the date on the post. hope you didn't get there late!
