What STD's can one get through kissing (and I am not talking about kisses on the cheek). Also, I understand one could get herpes through oral sex. Any other transmission of diseases through oral sex?

<< You can't get HIV from kissing >>

I read something the other day in a medical journal, don't remember which one, that said they aren't entirely sure that is true anymore. I sometimes just pick up journals where I work, at a hospital, when I get bored and browse through them. The one I was reading said that they are no longer 100% sure that HIV can't be transmitted through saliva. Don't remember the details but they were saying that there are more strains of HIV now and that some are longer living and much more adaptable to live and be transferred in new way.

Kinda a scary thought...

Actually i've heard that HIV can be transmitted by kissing but there would have to be about a gallon of fluid transfered. Imagine drinking a gallon of saliva. yum!

In small doses, the body's immune system can fight off HIV. Since HIV is in such low concentrations in things like sweat, saliva, tears, etc., it takes a lot more to transfer it, if it can be transferred by those fluids at all.

Blood contains a much higher concentration of the HIV virus, which is why it takes much less of a dose to infect someone.
