His newest album Be would'nt be a bad place to start.

I didn't think Be was all that good, but everyone else seems to like it.

what do you think i should listen to then?
On a side note, i tried to search for "common" under search and nothing comes up. Is the search feature buggy now? It keeps on telling me that my search contains ignored words. Same thing happening to you guys?

You're pretty much safe with any album except for the very first one "Can I Borrow a Dollar", it's not a bad album but the production is a bit weak and Common had'nt really developed his style as well on his other albums. Resurrection was the album that really put Common on the map he has 2 bonafide classic songs on that album "I Used To Love Her" and "Resurrection", those songs are constantly quoted and referred to in other people's albums. The next album is "One Day It Will All Make Sense" which is just packed with gems, he really brings the heat on the record. My personal favorite album by Com is "Like Water For Chocolate" his lyrics and the music production were stepped up quite a bit. The next album is "Electric Circus" and if you're a fan of experimental music then you'll probably like this CD a lot, he reallly went in a different direction. Lots of rock and electronica influences can heard throughout the entire album. Finally his most recent album is "Be" which is highly recommended as well.
I guess if I were to suggest an album I would say start with "Resurrection" and work your way through all of his albums. You'll definitely hear how his sound has matured with every album.
