I challenge anyone to think of a worse overall campaing. It can't be done.
That's easy, just think about all ad campaigns you've seen and forgotten about about 2 seconds later.
I'm not talking about single commercials. That's easy. There have been plenty of commercial that were worse overall than any of the individual McD's commercials. I'm talking about continuous long running ad campaigns. Seriously, it just hasn't happened. People would remember anything this bad that went on for this long.
I
am referring to entire campaigns though. Those individual ads you see are all part of some campaign. If the campaign sucks, then the ads get pulled. I'm not saying the McDonalds ads are good- far from it, but hey, you remembered them. I see what you're trying to get at though... I guess I just have a different definition of "bad" advertising.
On the train this summer, I saw a couple of little kids, probably 3, 4 years old, looking out the window... they saw a McDonalds and started singing the "i'm lovin' it" line over and over again. It was cute.
For Mickey-Dees, it's all about being a part of the culture, and "i'm lovin' it" accomplishes that.
