Commercials on netflix coming soon.

From the article:
UPDATE: A Netflix spokesperson told TechCrunch Monday that the new test “ads” some subscribers have been seeing are all promos for original Netflix shows, and that the streaming service is not experimenting with introducing third-party commercials.

“Our policy around ads is unchanged,” the spokesperson explained. “We have no plans to support third-party ad units.”

Try this experiment netflix. Less originals, less tv shows and MORE MOVIES...

netflix knows way more about its customer base than anyone else, and probably sees most of its user binge watching tv shows (or even using them as background noise) than anything else... hell, I probably average like 1 movie for every 20-30 tv episodes I watch on Netflix.

So it's like how HBO does it then? Mildly annoying, but no deal killer.

People here love to be outraged at the stupidest shit. "I have to watch a small commercial on a service I pay $8.00 a month for instead of 16 minutes of commercials on a service I have to pay $100 for?" RageRageRageRageRageRage

Its cool to be outraged!

<----- Seriously dislikes TV and that was originally the reason I paid for netflix. The flix part of their name is supposed to stand for movies. The only TV shows I have watched on Netflix is House and the X-files. I'm a movie buff, what can I say :\

Nope. Not good. If you want to advertise your shows, put it on a banner in the app and website. I don't want to see anything but the show I chose.

They already do this. Or at least they do on the PS3 version. I've got a big banner at the top suggesting shows which most of the time suggests their originals.

If I remember correctly in the past they used to autoplay "Orange is the New Black" after I finished watching a movie.

It's like they are doing the Obi Wan jedi hand wave thing and saying. "These are not the movies you're looking for. Now go watch our originals and reruns of tv shows."

I just don't think there is any way Netflix can offer a good selection of current movies and keep the price anywhere near the $8.99 price point they are currently at. Look at the ridiculous price of streaming vs. physical DVD movies as it is now when it comes to rentals. I'm not sure if the 400% premium is due to some restriction from the studios or if it is a "convenience" fee we pay for being able to stream stuff though.

I think Netflix realizes their only chance to stay relevant is to become a content creator rather than simply licensing and streaming other people's content. Anybody can do the latter (Amazon for instance) and take that revenue stream away by offering a cheaper service with the same material.

Remember cable used to be commercial free also at one time. 😉

Exactly this.

Plus Netflix is now making original movies too.
