Earlier I posted a question about building a decent computer for ~$400. How does this one look??

FIC AZ11 w/ AMD Duron 750 instead of ECS K7VZA w/ AMD Duron 800
Maxtor 20GB 7200RPM instead of Maxtor 15GB (2R015H1)
AOpen 12x10x32x instead of Lite-On 12x10x32x CDRW
US Robotics 56k WinModem (3594A)
Micron 128MB PC133
Creative Labs Speakers+Subwoofer (CSW100)
eVGA nVIDIA GeForce2 mx200 32MB instead of eVGA nVIDIA 32MB TNT M64
Enlight EN-72370X3 w/300w PS
Floppy
MS Intellimouse (Model #13488)
Keytronics Keyboard

This one comes out to about $550 w/ shipping.
This one actually comes out to $515 w/ shipping. Comments?

Thanks!
Hawk

Yeah, if you can afford a better motherboard and a better video card will be way better! Take Bangsailio advice.
For the video would suggest you a GeForce 2 MX.

Good luck!

well, you asked for comments so here they are...

in general, ECS has gotten the reputation (and in my opinion it's well deserved) of being poopoo.

if you ever plan on doing some gaming (but wouldn't consider yourself a gamer), get at least a geforce2 mx400

15gigs is a little small, unless you have it already (and get a 7200rpm drive)

basically, i know waiting is the hardest thing to do when you set your mind to build something now, but i recommend waiting and saving your money. i speak from experience as someone who always tried to save $15 here and there by getting something one step lower, figuring "hey, it's close enough...no need for the extra ___ (fill in the blank)". i was always sorry i did. you don't have to go for a ddr setup with 512megs ram, etc... but i would get a good kt133a mobo (epox, msi, iwill all are good deals), the duron is a fine choice, like i said a geforce2 mx400 (unless no gaming), 30gig 7200rpm drive (maxtor, ibm, etc...), 256megs crucial if you can swing it (128meg is ok to start), and the rest of the stuff you have seems ok

here is a comment to most of the ppl that answered so far...READ THE PART ABOUT ~400, not 800 dollars.

comments for the author of the thread:

1)mobo is suspect...good bargain I think on the FIC AZ11E for 85.00 shipped newegg

2)tnt2 card??? Are you joking? Get the EVGA GF2 mx200 32mb for 60.00 shipped newegg

3)get a 7200rpm drive...newegg has 20gig ata100 7200rpm drive for 89.00 shipped

4)get the Aopen for a few bucks more...nero is a better software program and aopen drives are rebadged Ricoh's with the latest burnproof type feature called justlink. Check out reviews on this...Better then the plextor drives of same 12x category.

5)get 256mb of ram why it is dirt cheap....memory suppliers at pricewatch have 256mb cas 2 7ns pc133 for 39.00 shipped and I have tested them in my machine and they work with amd and are capable of up to 146mhz at full agressive settings.

I found like components to what I suggested at newegg and www.tcwo.com minus the speakers cause I have no idea the quality of them for 537 shipped...so not too much more for a lot better...

Go with the radeon LE, forget about the mx, it's junk. Get a radeon le, it might be a little more, but it's worth it.

That new system you have there is pretty good and worth the extra money. You have departed a good bit from the $400 goal though. Is your friend going to be able to pony up the extra cash? The Radeon LE is less than $10 more than the MX200, but I can't say that it's going to be $10 better. It will probably give better 2D, but the MX200 will probably have better 3D and NVIDIA has better drivers than ATI.
