your advice on RAM is just not plausable for a mid range system. and your advice on the BFG 6800 is just flat out wrong.

Omizzle: The CL2 RAM is not needed in a midrange system. A BFG card isn't of low quality (though it would be a better value to find one non-overclocked for a bit less and simply do those speeds yourself). Other than that, though, your advice is all valid.

Kingston HyperX (1 gig dual channel) is only $170 on buy.com. I meant to put that next to it, but I forgot

athlon64 2800 is $200?

WRONG

athlon64 motherboard is $100?

WRONG

face it man, you wasted your money on stupid hard drives.

Go with this stuff and dump both the Raptors IMO they just aren't worth the price premium. If you go with this setup it will be leaps and bounds better than any Atlon XP trust us on this one. ANd your opinion on 64 bit being worthless they actually beat everything in 32bit and 64bit is an added bonus.

Might be a good deal, but I don't know buy.com's reputation as a reseller OTOH. It is only $20 more than a gig of Corsair Value Select, so it looks a bit enticing if the reseller is OK.

I get a employees rebate for most of this stuff. I can get the ram cheap from viking i can get the motherboard cheap from asus and the processor cheap striaght from AMD because they are trying to get rid of their stock

If you're getting this stuff really cheap (don't know about Viking RAM quality, though), then that would be the only reason to build SktA for any kind of gaming above ultra-cheap budget. Midrange these days, though, often means at least an A64 3000 or 3200 with a gig of RAM and a 6800, so maybe the hard drives sapped quite a bit from your budget that didn't go to as much of a performance increase as it could have.

IMHO, the 36er Raptors are not as bad as people on this forum say for some odd reason. Honestly, do you have one so you can talk about it?
But for a mid-range system I would not get them. They're nice to have, and I certainly don't want to work without mine - but in your case, its like buying a car with the most expensive wheels and then take the entry-level engine with 45 hp.

Sounds a lot like Phantomracoon. He only wanted stuff because it sounded or looked cool not because it had any performance increase. to it. And live2game if you have to have Raptors why not get a 74gb one instead of 2 36 gb ones, they are cheaper and have more features to them

Not only that, the style of his/her language is very similar, right down to the slightly hurt tone. 'Nef said. :)
