Yup, preliminary reviews seem to make it look rather disappointing. The only one's really excited looks to be overclockers. Time will tell for sure though.

I agree with this comment,at stock speeds it doesnt look that good, but hey if I can get 4ghz out of a 2.8ghz prescott then I would be happy with that. :D

Are you hearing stuff??? Cause if earlier reports are true this thing may be running warmer then normal northwoods which pretty much top out on air around 3.6ghz....so I may think 4ghz is not in reach unless all the eviews were majorly wrong or had early silicon and not the good stuff yet that the respectable sites with NDA'S will have...
Well, the NDA does have him tight lipped but Visionary posted a CPU-Z shot of his Prescott 3.2ES doing 4.2ghz on air@only 1.45v max link

I surmise Intel isn't screwing the pooch as many believe they are with this CPU. Unless his is truly exceptional, these badboys are gonna ramp well enough even on air to make them popular with enthusiasts. However, I think the recent trend of near silent air cooled overclocked computing will be damned near impossible with this chip. Anywho, we'll know soon enough ;) EDIT:the server's been getting hammered since he posted that so it will take a bit to load.

Kewl!!!! that peaks my interest a bit....Makes me think there is a good possibility the enquirer's stuff was crap (not that I ever believe them totally)...I knew early 2.8 prescott about 4 - 6 months ago was not a good representatoin cause it was early silicon before rumored stepping changes to deal with issues...

Intel could have shipped out hand picked Prescotts to testers.

As the mfr process gets more mature, the chips will eventually be better anyway (higher clock speeds etc).

Right-on brudda. Changing tracks a bit, the voltage to obtain that clockspeed leads me to ponder just what will be the max generally excepted safe voltage for these 90nm CPUs? I guess we'll have to wait for the "my prescott is FUBARed" my prescott won't overclock well anymore" threads to determine it eh?

i just noticed that the prescott has twice the L1 data cache (at 16kb)
i wonder if this is to help with SSE3 or has something to do with the increased number of stages
this is interesting

OK, so the Prescott is the same family as the P4 "C" family? Or is it manufactured on a whole diff process? When will benchmarks and more importantly, head-to-heads w/the A64 be out?

How about 14x300FSB = 4200 Prescott CPU?

You know You want IT

....using a DFI Infinity 875P board

Of course this is a handpicked engineering sample but now it's starting to look promising.

Now p4 3.4 Northwood gives more hope as well...

"Surprisingly, we were able to crank our chip up to 3.85 GHz without any extreme cooling methods."

You can read more about it on this page.

Now what's unfortunate is so far Abit says my IS7 v1.0 only supports up to Prescott 3.2.....hmmm....

Well, that's certainly a nice OC. However, I've had lots of nice overclocks that made it to the desktop and took a quick screenie of WCPUID before it crashed miserably. ;) How stable? Only time *and real reviews* will tell!

I also wonder(not having read anything on it) if those Prescotts are unlocked multiplier engineering samples?
