Commenting on Facebook...or should you?

One of my FB friends shared a video and dedicated it to:

"Julian Assange - a True American Patriot".

I asked if he was being sarcastic and he said he was not.

I asked him if he really thought he was an American Patriot and he said yes and that Julian sacrificed himself to protect our freedom of privacy...he used a lot of exclamation points.

I thought for a moment about my response, I wanted to ask him if he realized that Julian was not even American and was far from being a patriot and that he insulted true American patriots like George Washington with his comment. Instead I posted "OK then...thanks for clearing that up".

Sometimes I think I should just read FB and never comment because people get all bent out of shape in you dare challenge them.

Do you ever comment/question your FB friends posts if you do not agree with them?

and yeah i wouldn't bother. people get defensive, especially the ignorant ones.

I ignore controversial posts. Since the average Facebook user's IQ is somewhere around 20, trying to argue with someone will usually only lead to frustration and wasted time.

Serious waste of time and aggravation. Plus the more you comment the more visible the post becomes on facebook. Unless you enjoy drawing attention to yourself. I personally don't.

I troll my Facebook friends. There are those that cannot take a discussion, and they usually either delete my comment or disappear magically from my list friends.

I care little about anyone not open to debate about a subject that the care enough about to poast. Can't let a chance go by to create a mutual understanding.

Not to mention, that a good counterpoint always helps set up a nice comment thread.

I troll my Facebook friends. There are those that cannot take a discussion, and they usually either delete my comment or disappear magically from my list friends.

I care little about anyone not open to debate about a subject that the care enough about to poast. Can't let a chance go by to create a mutual understanding.

Not to mention, that a good counterpoint always helps set up a nice comment thread.

Trolling is not the same as having an open discussion/debate.

Well, the approach I chose depends on the idiocy of the original claim.
And they are not far removed. A good troll has to look every bit like someone genuinely interested in a debate, else the bait won't be taken by all but the most desperate feeders.
