Guys, if you're going into a phone interview for a network engineering related position, and your resume objective portrays yourself as a "senior network engineer", please be prepared for a technical interview. This means that if, for example, you put IIS on your resume as something you know, then you should have some idea of what IIS is and what functionalities it supports. You should also know what a hosts file is, and what resolv.conf is used for.

Sheesh.

So anyone reading this want a job? Senior Support Escalation Engineer (on a product line that involves switching and routing, load balancing, ssl offload, sslvpn, gslb, and much more), possible locations available would be San Jose, CA, New York, Seattle, or Florida. Send me a resume that you're proud of, one that you can back up with knowledge, experience, and confidence.

The pay is good, the work is interesting, and the personal growth potential is huge.

I'll take the job, although I have absolutely no idea what any of those things are and I'm unwilling to relocate. 😀

The "Hosts" file in Windows and other operating systems is used to associate host names with IP addresses.

The resolv.conf file resides in the /etc directory and contains the IPs of domain name servers that you will probably need if you are going to do anything on the internet.

Do I get the job?

Funny I just posted I comment on the other phone interview thread where I mention that overall you have to be honest regarding what you know. In my experience, 9/10 times an interview goes well because you are being honest to your interviewer.

This is very true.. Do not try to bullshit your way through the interview, since you will just make yourself look bad.
