How do i get to the CP when booting up the laptop? I have PHOENIX BIOS on a off-brand laptop.

Accessing BIOS and using an OS is out of the question ... I ned to access a program on the floppy before any of this can be done.

Pressing F8 as soon as you power up the computer will bring up the startup menu options on Microsoft products, but that is in a sense using the OS. Do you have a BIOS password that you are trying to crack? If that is the case, just do a search for BIOS password backdoor on the net. Most BIOS password on a Phoenix BIOS can probably be removed by simply disconneting the RTC battery (CMOS battey).

I actually managed to get an OS installed without needing to get in the BIOS, so from there I ran a killcmos crack and it worked. I felt stupid when my brother showed me what I was doing wrong.

Oh well .. learn somthing new everyday.

BTW ... inside the case, we couldn't find any CMOS battery so we figured being a somewhat newer system they made it near impossible to clear the BIOS simply by using a jumper/dipswitch.

What does the killcmos thingy do?

I downloaded it cause it would reset the BIOS password for me. When I ran it, I think it reset the whole BIOS. I didn't have a problemw ith that because I never changed anything and it was a fresh install. So now the laptop doesn't have a BIOS password or anything so I'm good to go other than a PCMIA NIC problem that came up.
