Ok, so I have been playing the games *mostly Generals* on the rig in sig for almost 3 weeks now perfectly.

But last night, I got terrible screen corruption. Ok, an example would be....When there is a smoke trail it is all black instead of smoke. Then when I move the screen around, it turns black as well.

If I save the game, then reload it.....it is fine. But after a few minutes it does it again. Now I have a total of 29 games installed and this is the only one that has been doing that.

Everything in my rig is *stock clocks* and NOTHING is overclocked. Which I know for a fact a 9800GTX can handle Command @ Conquer Generals EASILY.

I have tried different settings, resolutions and so forth. I am using the 180.48's

Any suggestions ?

Check to make sure the card is free of dust so the fan on it can work optimally. Maybe try running Generals with the side of your case open and see if the problem still happens. Not all games use all parts of the gpu, so that could explain why Generals has problems and others do not. Also try uninstalling and reinstalling the game.

Well, my ambient temps is 24c and the 9800GTX is brand new. So there is absolutely no dust in there at all. The gpu temps are 54c load while running the game.

I have a similar issue with my rig ( sig), only with Yuri's Revenge - even older. The texture goes corrupt during the intro movie, and sometimes in-game too, not to mention the occasional lag ( i7920 + GTX280 should own YR) . Fortunately for me the corruption problem solved when I use 'compatibility performance mode' and turn off conformant texture clamp under NV's CP.

I guess GFX companies will drop older games when they develop new drivers ( which suck, but makes business sense). I've read a very old thread here on AT that says something about driver issues with (very) old games ( Thief was the one they mentioned ) on nvidia cards. This is the only time when my old FX5200 > GTX280.

OP might just have to resort to dual boot ( or VM) sessions with an older card/driver as a workaround.

EDIT: This is the thread I was talking about.

Well, you know what ? Clamp was on in the NVCP. I turned it off, and it is totally fine now

Thanks for all the suggestions guys :p

That setting often fixes the chopped up text that appears in some old games. I use it in several game profiles.

texture corruption ccould happen because of some texture settings in the driver. Try changing texture quality setting in the driver options maybe that will fix it. Or completely uninstall and then reinstall that nvidia driver
