"I know you aren?t terribly interested in my personal life, but, like I said, people, and our relations with one another, are what really matters."

that looks like way to many commas to me but I think it's correct? so... is it?

see my above reply. and the reason I set "and our relations with one another" off with commas is because I didn't actually mention that before. I only mentioned the importance of people.

I know you are not terribly interested in my personal life, but it's important to understand that people and our relations with one another are what really matter.

I'm guessing... the person you're writing this letter to is an English major/teacher?

Here's the way:

I know you aren't terribly interested in my personal life, but like I said, people and our relations with one another are what really matter

Remember that it should be "matter," not "matters" because you have two subjects of the second independent phrase ("people" & "our relations").

Take the "s" off matters..........matters is a singular form with two plural words, people and relations. Relations matter, people matter.....not relations matters or people matters.

If that's the case, then it really isn't important at all to include that bit about the reader not caring. Just say what you have to say.

Let's see the entire paragraph in which that sentence appears.

you guys are going to rip this to shreds :D

I know you aren?t terribly interested in my personal life, but like I said, people and our relations with one another are what really matter. I?m sure it isn?t healthy to be so dependent upon one person though, so I was searching everywhere for something else to believe in. In time, I came to the conclusion that I could get by as long as there were people worth knowing in the world. I have faith in the human race. It?s a bit of a gamble, I know, but I?m convinced that there are some good people out there.

it sounds kind of choppy because I had to cut the length of an essay I'd written previously in half. I don't know...
