Well, it appears the people of the U.S. have finally found something worthy of getting out from in front of their TV's for. Numerous Tea Parties have been held but the majority of the media is evidently just too busy to cover them. Shocking, I know. :disgust:

Taxpayers Strike Back With 'Tea Parties'

Police in Cincinnati say at least 4,000 people showed up Sunday for a grassroots protest of wasteful government spending in general, and President Obama's stimulus package and budget in particular.
It was one of many tea party protests around the country ? inspired by the Revolutionary War era Boston Tea Party protesting British taxation. Protesters had signs reading "Give us liberty, not debt" and "Where's my bailout?"
One report states there are more than 150 tea parties scheduled across the nation in the upcoming months. The events so far have been largely ignored by the mainstream media, but several blogs are tracking them.
Noel Sheppard, associate editor for the conservative NewsBusters.org writes on the coverage so far: "Compare that to how these networks practically fell all over themselves to report war protests after the public's opinion changed concerning Iraq in late 2003."

The people attempting to take control of their government and their destiny. The founding fathers would be proud.

Are they going to serve those little cucumber sandwiches with the crusts cut off? They are simply delightful at tea parties.

We have had this for the last few years in the peoples republic of Minnesota. They go down on tax day on the capital and give speeches and protest high taxes and higher spending. You couldnt find the local news media within 5 miles of the protest.

Trying to find one near me right now. It's still a right that we retain as citizens. Nothing wrong with voicing your opinions in this country - yet.

In response to this, the British government passed the Tea Act, which allowed the East India Company to sell tea to the colonies directly and without "payment of any customs or duties whatsoever" in Britain, instead paying the much lower American duty. This tax break allowed the East India Company to sell tea for half the old price and cheaper than the price of tea in England, enabling them to undercut the prices offered by the colonial merchants and smugglers granting them a virtual monopoly.

the boston tea party occurred because the british got rid of the tax.

lol at this thread and the idiots marching around.

A mighty wave that raises tides first appears in the sewers.

You can't blame the right for being upset with Obama. It becomes clearer moment by moment what assholes they are and we see it right here in the changing nature of posts.

We can't expect it to make them happy. Not everybody has the intestinal fortitude to see they are mostly a piece of shit especially after a lifetime of being surrounded by other idiots that tell you your the good guy.

Because the protests are boring, predictable, and uninteresting? Noel Sheppard might want to use his colossal intellect to figure out why the anti-war protests were covered, but these weren't covered as much. (although a quick search showed several mentions on MSNBC, etc)

It's almost like with the anti-war protests entire cities were disrupted, mass arrests took place, etc... etc. You know, the stuff that actually gets ratings and attracts viewers. Small crowds of people holding up 'baawwwww taxes!' signs don't quite cut it. What's actually hilarious about the stupidity behind this article is that some of the largest anti-war protests in history (far larger than any from the Vietnam War) took place in America before the war began, and they were given the same low status news coverage that this idiot is complaining about as some sort of evidence of bias. Our good friend Noel conveniently forgets this, because it doesn't serve his ultra-partisan agenda.

The question is, are they going to have crumpets? It can't be valid without crumpets!

Apart from that, I support any peaceful expression of free speech. Wasteful government spending is a real problem, and while this particular mode of expression may frivolous to some, it will hopefully make more people wonder about the consequences of excessive national debt, and make them more wary of government spending.

Did LEO, SS, FBI, or another agency infiltrate the ranks and try to make it violent? You know, like the ones caught doing it in videos, during war protests this century?

So you think they aren't anything like those rallys?

Lets see. One is a campaign rally where some radical leftist pieced together some footage to suggest McCain supporters were racist(which is why you chose that video). So what is racist about a tea party? What does it have to do with McCain?

That's right- absolutely nothing - just an attempt at duhverting the thread by someone who should know better.

Unsurprisingly, when the left holds silly protests they are heartily defended here. Now the same crowd derides this.

No, Red, I wouldn't necessarily expect this to be the same crowd at a McCain/Palin rally. According to many here those people were from the RR. This ain't a RR issue, it's a fiscal conservative's issue. Those are two different crowds. I don't remember them being too high on McCain (he drew defense hawks, she drew RR's).

I saw protest signs about the bailout mostly. This AIG thing has the potential to make additional bailouts so politically unpopular Congress/Obama may have their hands tied.

I think it may have been a better idea to have Treasury review the AIG bonuses instead of Obama coming out quickly to pronounce disgust. Would be unfortunate if most or all the bonuses were legit. I know many of you can't imagine that, but I believe it's possible; could be more like commissions than the typical 'bonus'.

I'm pretty sure that it was AIG who was demonized for a big lavish retreat at a fancy resort after the first bailout. The MSM reported it was the execs splurging. Well, later we learned that wasn't the case, it was for their top performing (independant contractor) salesmen (whole life policies etc) and they were contractually due the 'reward'. Of course, that's not sensational so the MSM didn't do much follw up to clarify. I can't help but wonder if there might be something similar here.

I can only hope these spread and can help stop Obama's 4 trillion dollar budget. It is about time people get pissed off by the wasteful spending of this corrupt government.

Fern, are you saying this is a silly protest?

I think it's great that people are standing up for what they believe in. I find two things funny about it though, first that they are calling them 'tea parties' when the Boston Tea Party was actually protesting a removal of taxes, and secondly, the paranoid screeching about made up media bias is ridiculous as usual.

Haha that's probably a bad idea, but it would certainly attract more news attention.

I just don't get that complaint. If you had a news show and you could choose to cover a protest filled with goofy looking people running all over the city fighting cops and getting arrested, or a bunch of guys... holding up signs(?), which one are you going to point your cameras at?
