Coming out of standby, bad things happened

My computer was in standby for about a day. I went to turn it on, and the monitor came on, but nothing came up on the screen, so I restarted. When I restarted, I got a NTLDR not found error as it was booting up. Why on earth did this happen, and how? Is there any way to fix this without re-installing?

Thanks,
Paul

a friend of mine had that happen to his win2k install. booted up with a win98 startup floppy (his hard drive was a fat32 partition) and scandisk found a few problems. after scandisk ran, everything was fine. hope that helps.

Sounds like you might have a hard drive going bad. But one thing you could try: boot off of the W2K CD and go to the recovery console. See if you can repair the current installation.
