Whats the budget, the GTX760 is a terrible deal right now.

You can get an R9 280 under $175

Well said  R9 280 is easily the faster card. in the latest titles like Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor, Ryse Son of Rome, Civilization Beyond Earth, Alien isolation, Call of Duty advanced warfare, Farcry4, Dragon Age Inquisition the gap between R9 280 and GTX 760 is even bigger. Moreover few of these games are using 3GB even at 1080p. so its a no-brainer. get the R9 280.

If you get an nvidia card, make sure you uninstall the AMD driver, then use Driver Sweeper or something, then install the card and the drivers.

That R9 280 is a pretty good deal too.

You might find a 280x under $200, but the regular 280 is consistently there. I've seen a new R9 290 as low as $210, probably can hit the magical number if you get a gently used one. Doesn't seem like any good options for Nvidia right now...they need a GTX960.

Edit: Yeah Newegg has this 280x for $199 after rebate right now:

290 is about 30% faster than a 280x and 60% faster than 270x
280x is about 10% faster than a vanilla 280.
280x is about 30% faster than 270x

hmm r9 280x is a rebadged 7970?

Essentially. The 280 is like a 7950 boost.

And 270x is kinda like a 7870 and 270 is kinda like a 7850.

Clock and RAM speeds have changed and there may be a few other minor differences.

Oh and even "just" the vanilla 280 is about twice as fast as the 7770.

Really, for the $150-165 the R9 280 is a pretty good bang for the buck option.
If you can score an R9 290 close to $200 that would be the next big bang for the buck option.

Depending on your PSU you may also be able to get a great deal on a used 290.
