Coming back after illness

Well I was in a nice grove with my routines and really enjoying myself. Thursday I started to get a sore throat and by Friday morning I had a bad sore throat. The weekend I was in full cold mode.

I didn't go to the gym Friday through Monday and went back today and was really heaving and weak. Now I know I wasn't fully recovered from my cold this morning but I'm feeling pretty good now.

Has anyone else had to come back from an illness and if so, how long until you got your groove back. (I feel like I was starting all over today!)

I had an allergic reaction to my tetanus vaccine, I never got back into weightlifting with the same intensity after that.

I've had to do that, it took like a week or so to get my strength back.

the worst was when i broke my ankle and was out of the gym for 3 months.

You should bounce back in no time (like a week) as you didn't take much time off. I got food poisoning once and lost 10 lbs in 3 days, I didn't eat a single thing during those days. It took me 2 months to get my body weight back. Luckily your body remembers it's strength so my lifts came back fine, but again it took probably 2 months.

I think within 2 weeks you should be back in your groove.

Yeah, if it's the same crud that's kept me out of work the past two days (just as much to keep others at work from getting this, as for me to recover from it), then I'd say about a week. Today, just to walk from my parking space to my front door, about 40 yards with one set of stairs, I found myself breathing a little hard......was like, WTF?? If it's like the last time, I figure it'll be a week before I feel 100% during my workout again, but will see how I feel tomorrow when I go. :)

I remember the worst thing about bouncing back into my routine is that I simply didn't want to do it anymore. I felt tired and it felt like I had a million excuses I could use. But, my first time back I just roughed through it even with a constant discomfort associated (I wasted an extra hour not wanting to do anything before finally busting my ass). By the 2nd workout day, I was still weak but it was enjoyable again.

So all I can really say is just get through that first day back.

Thanks for the comments, today was the second day back and wow was I gassed at the end. I had to take about an extra 30 seconds to a minute between sets because I was just really having a hard time catching my breath. Not to mention I had to drop weight a bit.

Feels good to get back into it though, even if not at the same intensity quite yet.

Yeah, I got the Flu shot 2 days ago and my shoulder's still sore as hell. Puts rowing out of the picture. I've been running to compensate, but that's only cardio and legs, and I can already feel my arm strength going down. Guess I'll just have to build it up again.
