Comfortable Dress Shoes?

I start a new job on Monday. I have to wear dress shoes for this job.

I bought a pair of Rockports but they are not comfortable at all. In the store they were fine, but after wearing them for more than 20 minutes, my feet really start to hurt.

Any recommendations for nice, comfortable dress shoes?

Bass shoes are very comfortable. I need to wear good shoes as I'm on my feet a lot on the job. I always seem to keep coming back to Bass.

I've never heard of Bass Shoes. Time to do some searching.

I was wearing Born shoes quite a lot, but they don't really have any dress shoes.

Florsheim shoes have been recommended to me as well. Any insight on Florsheim?

Buy Florsheim's. I have a pair and they're so comfy. Almost too comfy, they are like house slippers.

Be sure to try em on first though.

Weird that rockports are uncomfortable unless they don't fit right. I'm partial to ecco as well.

My first pair of dress shoes were Florshiem's. Very comfortable but too pricey for the day to day beating my shoes take.

Bass stores in your state but I think they're too far away from you to be useful.

I tried on these Josef Seibel's the other day. They felt perfect. Didn't buy them so I don't know how they'd feel after a few hours. With that color though I just wasn't sure what to wear them with really.

I'm wondering if the rockports are too narrow. I tried on the wider version and they felt too wide. The medium width feels right, but who knows.

The Ecco shoes that I looked at were nice, but I didn't really want to spend $170+, so I got the rockports for $90. I guess it might be worth the investment.

Rike, thanks for the locations. Looks like the closest Bass Outlet is 140 miles away. I guess I would be better off saving the gas money (and time) and buying Eccos.

There is a Florsheim dealer downtown. I'll run down there tomorrow (hopefully they are open on Sundays).

I got two pairs of Allen Edmonds (Park Avenue and Delray, if anyone's interested). I was skeptical when we went to get them, since they basically have a piece of leather as an insole, but they're built in such a way that your foot is really well supported. Once the upper breaks in, they're very comfortable shoes.

Keep in mind, you only got one wear out of those Rockports. The leather needs to break in, so wear them around the house for a while. Just don't let it rub any part of your feet raw, that takes a while to heal. Also, this sounds counterintuitive, but wear the thin dress socks, not tube socks.

Would buy again

Are you a lawyer (barrister/solicitor down there) these days, Dug? I only ask because the profession isn't onto square toes up here in the states yet :) When I got my clerking job, I had to go with some cap toes to fit in. Seriously.

For business casual, I have a pair of ECCO dress shoes which are extremely comfortable.

For real dress shoes, a well fitting pair of Allen Edmonds or Aldens should work. I think they are comfortable enough.

I couldn't agree more with Ecco. Mine are sooooo comfortable. I've had them for 5 years and I don't want to buy another pair of shoes for work.

Nah, decided I didn't want to practice two years before I finished up law school, but that degree opens doors elsewhere, so I finished up.

Square toes are pretty much everywhere here now tho, including the legal profession. I like the look, and it allows for a wider shoe towards the end, which is great since I've got enormously broad feet :)

Ecco++. Spent $100 on my pair but I can walk in them all day and not feel the slightest bit uncomfortable.

Ha, we might be in the same boat. I haven't decided I don't want to practice per se, but I just took a position in management and IT consulting (I go to school at night, to clear up any confusion). Definitely opens up doors, but I think I do want to practice in a law+tech field after I pass the bar.
