Comey intentionally covered up Russian interference in our election on behalf of Trump, but felt it was important to factlessly smear Hillary a week before an election.

PELLEY:You know, in '76, Jimmy Carter famously said, "I will not lie to you."

CLINTON: Well, I have to tell you I have tried in every way I know how literally from my years as a young lawyer all the way through my time as secretary of state to level with the American people.

PELLEY:You talk about leveling with the American people. Have you always told the truth?

CLINTON:I've always tried to. Always. Always.

PELLEY:Some people are gonna call that wiggle room that you just gave yourself.

CLINTON:Well, no, I've always tried --

PELLEY:I mean, Jimmy Carter said, "I will never lie to you."

CLINTON:Well, but, you know, you're asking me to say, "Have I ever?" I don't believe I ever have. I don't believe I ever have. I don't believe I ever will. I'm gonna do the best I can to level with the American people.

Definition of "honest" according to GOP when applied to HRC: "HAVE YOU EVER LIED IN YOUR LIFE? WILL YOU PROMISE US THAT YOU'LL NEVER LIE? AND QUIT YOUR JOB AND MOVE TO RUSSIA IF WE PROVE YOU LIED? "

Definition of "honest" according to GOP when applied to Trump: "IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU'RE SAYING THIS, BUT I CAN TELL YOU MEAN THIS, SO YOU DEFINITELY ARE BEING TRUTHFUL. WHY CAN'T HILLARY BE SO PLEASANTLY DUPLICITOUS?

The sad part is, HRC is so honest she refused to lie about lying in the future. If she had lied, and said she'd never lie, Pelley would've gone nuts. Of course, none of the same standards apply to Trump. Or any other politician, for that matter.

He's quite the useful idiot, with a long history of making idiotic comments about things. Remember the huge Apple fiasco when the FBI wanted to hack some iPhone? Of course Obama loves him, as do many liberal cucks who seem to cream their pants whenever they see somebody in law enforcement.

Comey should resign, but he is still thinking he can salvage his image. But now that he has served his purpose, he's of no use to Republicans, he's just a loose cannon.

Doesn't change that she dodged the question. I never claimed Trump was honest or that there wasn't a double standard. But quotes like the one I provides certainly didn't help her.

It's a stupid question, considering she's a politician who literally is required to lie about certain things merely to keep her job. But I guess for Trumpeters and people like you it's some kind of "gotcha" moment....

Jimmy Carter or Obama could have handled answering the question. People like me don't care for Trump but also recognize that Clinton was probably the worst candidate to face him.

Only completely brain dead idiots believe Hillary wasn't a good candidate. People that are incapable of determining what is fact and what is pure fabrication. Unfortunately a large portion of the population is just as hapless as you are.

She wasn't a good candidate. Obama was a good candidate. That is why he won and she did not.

If condescending remarks is the warm blanket of comfort that you require to help you through denial, I will not rob you of it.

Obama was a horrible candidate. Born in Kenya. Wanted to implement Sharia Law. Thankfully our devoted GOP members were able to stop him.

I think you are serious. Which makes this one of the dumbest posts of the week. Congrats on making it to Saturday!

That post was blatantly not serious. I think his point is that asking a Republican to provide a positive opinion on a leading Democratic candidate is kind of futile.

That ridiculous line of attack was the best the GOP could come up with against Obama, and it was nothing more than a distraction. The Democrats lost legislative footing complements of fossils like Reid and Pelosi.

Clinton on the other hand was a treasure trove of vulnerabilities.

When Trump entered the field, he was already known as sexist meglomaniac of questionable character. That is why the "October" surprise of his sexual predatory comments didn't sink him. Nothing changed in terms of the narrative around who he is as a candidate.

Clinton entered the field as an experienced Washington insider, yet kept making self inflicted errors that caused enough people to question the very judgment she positioned as the cornerstone of her candidacy.

Yes, that's a perfect example of her nuanced, legalistic approach to being truthful. Good lawyers always qualify their statements because the real world is never perfectly black and white. There's always some detail you missed, or circumstance that will change. Just ask George H. W. "Read my lips, no new taxes" Bush how that works.

Good lawyers try to use accurate and precise language. Unfortunately, that precision makes for a lousy politician. People like politicians to lie through their teeth tell them what they want to hear. That's why Donnie is such a god to his flock. He shamelessly lied his ass off, and they loved him for it.

Sorry, but you don't understand what makes a good candidate. I agree Clinton would have probably made a pretty decent President, and potentially even a very good one She has solid qualifications, and in spite of the epic smear campaign by the GOP, Russians, and FBI, is no more corrupt than any other D.C. politician.

As a candidate, however, Clinton had too much baggage and too little charisma. That wouldn't have affected her ability to govern, but it clearly hurt her chances of getting elected.

I agree. It was nuanced. It was legalistic. And it was truthful in that she was incapable of affirmatively answering a fairly straightforward question.

Do or do not. There is no try.

No one has, hence the ludicracy of her saying "I believe I always have" or "try to". Given the context of the question, an affirmation of not telling the truth and providing context in plain language on what she learned in not doing so, would have buried the issue.

What Comey and the FBI did, is at the same level as the KGB impacting Russian politics during the Cold War. But yeah, that were the Commies, so they were evil. What the FBI did was pure patriotic !

The FBI has always done this crap. They were started by an ideologue in Hoover who proceeded to ignore the mafia for 40 years while he ran the agency. They helped assassinate MLK in the 60s. They are a despicable organization and it really amazes me how many americans have no idea the history of this agency. The NSA actually has a history of doing the country good, the FBI on the other hand... not so much.

It should surprise nobody that Comey, a man who personally tried to destroy the most profitable and wealthy technology enterprise in the US and destroy every american's security, is attempting to influence the election on behalf of an authoritarian dictator-in-waiting.

You live in a fantasy world, my friend. Had Clinton, or any Democrat admitted to lying to the American public, the vitriolic howling on the right would never end. From that point forward, every single thing she said would be challenged with, "Are you lying to us again?" That's not limited to Democratic candidates. Had any Republican candidate (except probably Donnie) made such an admission, the howling from the left would be almost as bad. Americans do not reward such direct honesty in its politicians.

Comey will be described in history books with absolute infamy. He could thwart 15 terror events; this is what he will be remembered for.

Do you consider Sanders to have been a good candidate? The 'bad' candidate crushed him. I'm amazed how many Sanders supporters have convinced themselves he was such a great candidate and somehow he lost by millions of votes because the DNC said something mean about him in an email instead of just recognizing that he didn't appeal to large swaths of the Democratic coalition.

I remember Hamilton Nolan at Gawker being angry and baffled as to why black people weren't flocking to Sanders because he somehow didn't realize they didn't give a shit about student loan forgiveness. I also remember going to a Sanders rally in Prospect Park and seeing that there were basically no black people there despite the park being surrounded on two sides by heavily black neighborhoods.

In an election the Democrats lost in large part due to lesser black turnout let me register my doubt that nominating the guy almost no black people voted for would have helped.

I think Sanders was the better candidate in that he understood the populist undercurrent fueling this election, and he did remarkable well considering he was a relative unknown going against the well established Clinton brand with the DNC establishment tipping the scales in her favor.

I would very much like to have seen a Sanders v Trump match-up.

Howard Dean deserves a lot of credit. It was his 50 state strategy and campaign apparatus that Obama leveraged to victory. We saw the results of letting Clinton surrogates drive the strategy...a diluted stew of focus group sanctioned empty calories that hit all the right notes yet lacked inspiration.
