Wasn't he at a Barrack Obama campaign deal not to long ago?

Wow. RIP Burnie

He was GREAT in Kings Of Comedy & The Bernie Mac show is still one of the funniest shows to watch. Best portrayal of parenting I've seen on TV

I love his stand up "Sumuma Bitch!" He was up there with Richard Pryor, Bill Cosby & George Carlin. Truly one of the best comedians ever.

people die of pneumonia in the hospital all the time. usually due to infection from compromised immune system, which happens post-surgery. sucks, but it's not strange at all. to make matters worse, you have cases of antibiotic resistant strains cropping up more and more, especially in hospitals, which leaves doctors with little chance to treat certain infections.

I feel bad for his family, and wouldn't wish anything bad of him at all.

But am I the only one here who just didn't think he was all that great?

Let's be honest, he was no Richard Pryor.

yes, yes he was that great.

^^ Well, I can respect that opinion, and I respect what the man accomplished, I just never really cared for his work. He kind of reminded me of David Letterman strangely, mainly in the way he just seemed kind of bitter, egotistical, and pissed off all the time.

Well, no offense meant obviously, and I would never wish any harm on him or his family.

It's just that he went from being only a moderate celebrity to 'one of the greats' almost instantly with his death. I never found him very funny, just bitter. George Carlin is a well-acknowledged genius, and I'd have to put Eddie Murphy in his pre-hollywood heyday as far and above anything I've ever seen Bernie Mac associated with.

Now, I fully acknowledge that opinions are like you know what, and for all that really liked his work, no problem. I think I join everyone here in saying that regardless of his work or anything else, 50 is too young to die so suddenly, and I offer my sincere condolences to his family.

..Bernie bloomed into a true actor. Pryor was "shock" funny but never grew out of his slap stick movie routine.

To tell you the truth, I only saw him in a few episodes of his sitcom and the Oceans trilogy. And I am still reeling back from hearing this.
So sad.

Realizing greatness can't be measured by personal taste at times.
He was not in my list of favorites. But I can easily see how others can find him awesome.

🙁

I liked him in a lot of his movies. "There's no such thing as white-collar crime. And there's definitely no such thing as black-on-black crime. Crime is crime. Let me explain something to you. I don't care if you have a white collar or a tank top. If you rob me, I'm gonna whup your ass. "

His sitcom was great because even if he was exaggerating some of the stuff, there was a lot of himself in the character. Sort of like watching Sanford & Son, Red Fox was part Sanford in real life I'm sure. Bernie spoke his mind and said things people think but would never say, or even admit they think. He could talk about whopping a kids ass and people would laugh and then go "oh shit I just laughed at child abuse" His style of comedy wasn't for everyone, he was pretty vulgar and harsh, but I loved how he made talking about his drugs addicted sister and fucked up childhood things I could laugh at.

Judging from a few movies I saw him it, I think if he had more time here he could have even went on to be a pretty good actor in serious roles.
