I make these a couple times a month on Sunday mornings. Thought I'd share
You'll need-
5-6 tart apples. I like granny smith or macintosh.
Powdered sugar
Water
Butter
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
Amaretto (optional)
Core and slice apples. You can leave the skins on. Melt butter in a large skillet, then fry the apples until tender. Add about 1 cup of powered sugar to the apples, then stir until it makes a thick paste. Add some water to make the paste into a syrup.
Add cinnamon and nutmeg to taste. I like to add a couple of splashes of amaretto to give it a slightly "cherry" taste, but this is completely optional. If you do use amaretto be sure to let it simmer for an extra couple of minutes to cook off the alcohol.
Use it to mix into oatmeal or as a pancake topping. Hell- eat them right out of the pan (like my kids
). They should look something like this when done:
Enjoy!
