ok here's the situation
my credit limit on this card is $800
4-21 I have a balance of $400. I pay it all off, so now my balance is $0.

between 4-22 and yesterday I charged about $500. Now I am over my limit.

I called and spoke with a nice (albeit stupid) indian lady that couldn't explain why.

Do credit cards 'hold' your payments until the end of the month or something? This is all through chase btw.

How did you pay it off? Through them or through on-line banking?

If you only have an $800 limit you shouldn't be spending $500 in two weeks...but anyways sounds like you just had a case of bad timing though....next time make sure funds are avaibile before charging up that CC...i know all the time my CC company (amex) will take anywhere from 2-5 days to actually post that my card had a payment made and funds are available again...

It is federal law that banking institutions have the right to take your money immediately and not post it until later. The amount of time varies (2, 4, 6, and 8 days depending on the exact circumstances), so I would always give it a week just to be sure.

Read up on the Competitive Equality Banking Act of 1987. Also known as the Expedited Funds Availability Act.

I still fail to see how this is related to your prostitute f-ing thread title and how they accept CC deposits. ;)
