Well after seeing this thread I picked up a copy of Duke from GOG and installed the HR pack. It really does look great (relatively speaking) and the game is still fun. Highly recommended!

Spent the $6 at gog.com. Installed, played for an hour. Worth it for the multiplayer memories.

God that was fun. Just don't make em like they use to.

I've actually been rebeating the game....heh. I'm about halfway through the last episode. I will say that while the models look a lot better, some of the level design is pretty dated on account of the fact they probably had to be made to perform well on like a pentium 66 or something.

I just got around to installing Duke3d again and running it with EDuke32 and the high res pack. Awesome stuff. Brings back some memories.

I was really into the mod scene after DN3D was released. If anyone is interested, I made two mods (more commonly called total conversions back then), called MERC (1 and 2) which will work with EDuke32. You can download them here: http://dukenukem3dtc.tripod.com/id19.html

You'll need to create a custom loader to run them correctly with eDuke, which I have on my computer. So if anyone has EDuke up and running and is interested in playing the mods, let me know and i'll upload the loader (which is basically just a .bat file that loads the custom files). I'm still quite proud of those mods, but keep in mind that I was 15 when I began creating them. :)

EDIT: Here's an archive of the website I created for the mod that I pulled from waybackmachine: http://web.archive.org/web/200....totalconversions.com/

With the recent release of Duke3d on gog.com and the renewed interest from mods such as EDuke32 and the HRP, I decided to re-release both of the Duke3d mods I helped create back in the late 90's. MERC: Fatal Reality was originally released in 1997, and the sequel, MERC 2, was released in late 1998.

I created a zip file containing both mods along with quick launchers you can use with EDuke32.

Download it here:

For more info refer to the readme file.

If you end up playing let me know what you think! Keep in mind I was about 15 when I started creating those mods.. :) Have fun
