I'm helping a friend of a friend with her Comcraq machine over AIM. Its got Win2k and shes getting alot of BSODs. A program "msmsgs" often causes a kernel32 error. I thought that was MSN Messenger, but she says its not installed. But "compaq IE5 custom US V1.00.0.4" installed, since this looks like some kind of custom IE install could this have MSN messenger included?? Any ideas would be helpful!!!!

use the restore\rollback in ME and see if it still has problems

BSOD sounds like hardware, check the ram, cpu heat....

Does it have the CPQ diags in control pannel?

I guided her thru the msconfig and startup menus...its almost as if msn messenger isnt there even tho it IS running and errors out. Thanks for all the suggestions tho...keep them coming...

If it gets bad enuf I'll just walk her thru a reload to Win2k or Win98....ME sucks bad anyway

The MSN Messanger is included in Outlook Express and can be disabled through it...

I am not to familiar with the custom installations of IE, but if it doesn't work, get a simple unistallation prog for IE, and then reinstall it..

(someone else will have to provide the actual links, because i simply do not have the time to do so, this is not out of arrogance, but i do have a business to run)

BSOD? What is that, bull sh*t operation demands?

Anyway, I have a crappaq, I had similar problems, the idiot on tech support seemed to think re-install is the only option. They are idiots, don't try tech support. There has got to be another way, but if she just got it and has nothing on it important, it would prolly be less effort than checking all the possibilities.
