I have an SA8000, do you know if you can hook up a DVD recorder to the "Archive to VCR" feature?

Cableco DVRs' software just plain sucks...I wish everyone would just license the Tivo software, it owns. I hate having my digital cable hooked up to a Tivo through an analog connection...the geek in me shudders, but the Tivo interface is so perfect, I can't imagine getting another TW DVR (had one for a month then brought it back, it was horrible).

Werk, Comcast is offering Microsoft's TV in the Pacific NW. It's much better than iGuide. iGuide isn't too bad though. Much better than the older TVGuide.

Cable HD DVR is $0 outlay and >70% of US gets TV exclusively from cable.

Tivo just can't compete with that.

Yeah but cable sucks......

Just out of curiosity, would you care to elaborate? I am quite happy with cable, well i don't have a choice since the porch of my townhouse does not have a clear view of any satellite anyway.

How many HDTV channels do you get on DirecTV?

I get these HD channels for about $7/mo;

700 - HBO HD
701 - Showtime HD
605 - WEDU PBS HD/The Florida Channel
610 - WTSP CBS HD
613 - WTVT FOX DT
616 - WUSF PBS
617 - WUSF Annenberg/CPB
618 - WUSF PBS University
619 - WUSF - Florida Knowledge Network
628 - WFTS ABC HD
690 - Discovery HD Theater
691 - TNT HD
703 - INHD (High Definition)
704 - INHD2 (High Definition)
705 - HDNet (High Definition)
706 - HDNet Movies (High Definition)
707 - ESPN HD

It looks like your getting a real good deal but the majority of cable co's are charging way more than they should be... for instance my local....

10 bucks to rend the regular HD tuner box (no DVR yet)
55 for "digital cable"
5 for locals (PBS, CBS, KCEN and thats it)
5 for HDnet/HDnet movies, ESPN and Discovery

thats 75 bucks for one room with HD cable.....

I pay 50 to voom for ~40 HD channels including the box rental fee)
I save 30 bucks and get more HD content.

I lost the picture for days everytime it rained, don't get me started on when it snowed. Even a windy day would screw up all my channels, and they couldn't do anything for me. Then I switched to satelite and everything has been fine since. Cable sucked.

huh, when there were elements in the weather the cable was surpassed by satellite? you're cable provider must have been extremely shady.

no NBC HD?

Nope, the local NBC affiliate in Tampa has some serious HD issues. Even people with antenna's that live in the area can't pick it up either. The signal fluctuates too much.

What's so bad about TW DVR? I've had my box for two months now and I love it (of course, I haven't tried to the Tivo interface yet, so maybe I don't know what I'm missing 😉).

that's pretty crazy, my HD box is $4.34/month. plus $45 for digital cable (including HD channels)

With Comcast you don't have to have "digital cable" to get their HDTV channels. So, you can just have the STB ($7/mo, $14/mo for DVR) basic cable ($6/mo here) and that's it. For that price you get all the local HDTV channels.

If you add $5/mo more for "digital classic" you get INHD1/INHD2, ESPN-HD and DISC-HD.

Had my 6412 put in about two weeks ago, I don't think I've ever watched as much TV as I have since then. Now if KOIN and Emmis Communications would stop being little bitches and sign with Comcast, I could watch CSI in HD. :|

Sat. providers compress the data they get from networks like shit, while cable passes the feed they get from the network without any more compression. Cable feeds its customers the 19Mb/s for HD while Dish/Direct TV ranges from 8-19 and on average it is only around 12. Cable is better for HD.

That is awesome! A two tuner DVR is the sh!t. I'm not sure why Tivo can't do this for their regular units. I mean two tuners isn't that complicated. I may have to pay the extra cash for this. I don't want digital cable but if I could get the HD and the DVR without it that would be sweeeet!

Hey fellow Oregonian 🙂

Can you get this with extended analog cable or do you HAVE to have digital cable?
