Comcast's Dual-HDTV tuner DVR

Motorola 6412

Got mine today. It only costs $7 more than the HDTV box. It offers Tivo-like functionality except it has 2 HDTV tuners. Not only can I pause live TV, but I can record two different shows simultaneously, while watching a pre-recorded show off the harddrive.

Satellite and Tivo has a really big problem competing with this.

I have the Scientific Atlanta 8300HD DVR on Brighthouse Networks and i love it too....

You have obviously never used a TIVO if you think that pretender is even close to the functionality. Those of us that have used a real TIVO would bitch and curse every day we had to use something as horrendous as that piece of junk. It's gonna be a long time before they even come close to catching up in funtionality.

what does the TIVO have that the 6412 doesn't? it can pause, rewind, and replay, it can record HDTV while you're watching another HDTV channel. Of course the 6412 is probably limited to use on a cable TV system anyways.

I've had tivo for 3 months and had my HD DVR for a little over a month... While i like Tivo, it has some major downfalls.

1. Tivo only has one tuner. You have to record what your watching, or use a splitter and use the tv's tuner to watch another channel, but you loose all tivo functionality while doing so.
2. Tivo offers no HD support, yet. Not sure on a timeline or if this is even feesable. <EDIT> Looks like they offer an HD Tivo, but its $999 and looks to be only Satellite capable.

While yes, Tivo's predective recording and suggestions really do make the product shine, until they offer either of those two features, im sticking with my cable companies HD DVR.

Can you record two different shows with with a Tivo while watching one stored on the harddrive?

Can you dump to DVHS over Firewire?

The HDTivo is closer to this, but it costs $1000 up front. I only have to rent this for $7/mo more than the HD box.

My Directv Tivo has been doing all that for months for me, and it has two OTA tuners, as well as the dual Sat tuners. Problem competing? Cable is just starting to catch up from where I sit, and the Motorola still doesn't have the Tivo software.

HD tuners? This box has two QAM high-def cable tuners, as well as DVI And Firewire output. Granted the Tivo software is better, but the iGuide software will improve. It can already record by series, etc.

Yes, it only costs approx $12 a month here in the Boston area.

I dunno what you are talking about.

1. My tivo has two tuners and I can record two shows at once (but i have to be watching 1) or I can record two shows at once and watch a seperate 3rd one that is already recorded.

2. There is an HD Tivo on the market.

The HD tivo for directv has two DTV tuners and an OTA tuner, all high def.

Yes, it has two HD tuners, actually 4 if you want to count the OTA tuners, but it can only record/use, any two at a time.

DirecTV HD TIVO. Really can't compare the stand alone ones. It's $10.99 a month (a standard TIVO is $5 a month).

Philips DSR704, but I think I misunderstood. I have a DirecTivo for DirecTV. It has two tuners. This is probably different from the stand alone OTA unit.

Stand alones are all one tuner as far as I know, but Directivos are all dual tuners.

I've had this same model for about 3 weeks now and I LOVE IT. The dual tuners is what sold me on it. And it's only $10/mon through comcast.

HDTivo is an $800+ outlay and you have to have satellite.

Cable HD DVR is $0 outlay and >70% of US gets TV exclusively from cable.

Tivo just can't compete with that.

Your argument about cable vs. dish is pointless. So what if you have to get dish? Dish is superior to cable anyway. Forget about the service and just discuss the hardware.
