Wow, great news!

Now if they would only break up Verizon into Verizon Wireless and Verizon Telecom, so that they wouldn't abandon their wireline copper and fiber customers, and try to push them towards cellular wireless, with worse service and pricy per-GB data overages.

deal was so bad that even all ca$h sent to politicians couldn't get it rolling.
I know. Damn, even the paid off politicians said this is too much. This is indeed great news and a relief really. I am a TW customer and pay too much for slow as internet already.

I wouldn't count on this going away. The timing on the merger announcement was bad, and they realized it wouldn't go through in the current political climate.

Give it a couple years and they'll attempt it again.

Nah I think it's dead. It might come back in some form, but these things tend to be the product of a particular business climate and resulting strategy. Now they will turn their attentions to something else, probably another acquisition. I wonder who that might be?

I'm kind of sad to hear this. I was one of the chosen who would have had a different cable company take over my service area if the deal went through.

Yeah but when they try again it will be like Office Depot and Staples finally getting the greenlight- the world will have changed.

What this prevented is a juggernaut of stagnation.

Good news indeed! TW is bad enough without the added suck of being absorbed.

Had DirectTV. It was fine as long as it didn't rain. Had to switch to TW.

Wow I'm actually quite surprised at this, but nice to see it did not happen. Looks like capitalism lost, this time.

The people won, that's what's important. Also, i'm not entirely surprised, the government blocked the AT&T/T-mobile deal too. Good on them.

It's nice. A comforting victory. But they will still engage in collusion by dividing and carving up the market to avoid stepping on each others toes in order to maximize each others profit with minimal effort and cost. They may not be one and the same now, but they still aren't competition.

Amusingly enough, the merger actually might have been beneficial to me in my current situation given that I would've been spun off Comcast and potentially out from their overage charges. :p

Not really. The issues mostly came from the DoJ and FCC. There were a few states that were holding out for good enough deals due to franchise agreements (the last that I heard about was California), but I don't recall any of them saying no in the end.

I have had DirecTV for a few years, and through some pretty good rainstorms (which, I know, are rare in So.Cal.), but I have never had an outage related to weather.

Maybe I have been lucky?

I know it will never happen, but they really need to break up these companies that own TV, phone and internet. No one company should be allowed to own more than one of those services, and they should not be allowed to make bundling deals, either.

And, the government should own all the wires and pipes and let every company use them for the same cost. The companies would then have to compete on price and services rather than "We are your only real choice".

While I'm at it, I want a pony, too. :(

TW is atrocious. Their service, customer service and technicians, in my experience, are terrible. Service kept getting worse yet price kept rising. Fios is a godsend.

Color me surprised that both managed to get blocked. I was fully expecting money to win with the way our government is run now.

I expect these mergers to go through if/when a republican wins the white house.

Nice, i wish others would follow suit. Eventually cable companies will have to fight back or result in more cord cutters because of their rigid deals with cable channels.

People continue to say this, but the numbers simply don't back it up. Cable TV market penetration continues to remain steady for the past 10+ years.
