When you first got your ISP, how long did it take for them to hook you up? I'm moving out possibly tomorrow (on my 18th birthday, no less), and I'd like to know how long I'll be intarwebless...

well you have to set up an appointment for them to come, it can take anywhere fron 2 days to 2 months

I can install it okay, but what about them turing it on?

I picked mine up at the office, drove a few blocks home, plugged it in, it was on. Unlike Verizon DSL, there is no Service (never!) Ready Date.

Did a self-install which took less than 30 minutes. Couldn't wait for a week for them to install.

Bought my Motorola SB5120 modem at Circuit City then called 1-800-COMCAST to activate it. Gave my account# and phone #. Already have Comcast cable/HDTV so the cables were already installed. Compared to DSL, I had no need for a login/password to connect, its always on. Getting 6669 kbps/ 349 kbps.
