Gold tier was ten dollar more monthly when I used the service in the states. It was right after the new year in 2005 - 6Mb/768k and silver was upgraded from 3Mb/256k to 4Mb/384k.

Silver is now 6Mb/384k in upgraded areas. Check dslreports.com/forums for more info!

all you guys with 3Mb+ connections suck 😛

Don't feel bad, I'm using a 256kbps (MAX) link with 850mS avg latency connecting to a citrix servant in the states, vpn from that to a winders box which I post from. Some days I can type a whole line before I see it in the box I'm typing and if I mess up I have to go back. It's like being drunk when sober. Like that makes any sense.

wtf...I run this http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/ and it only gives me 1.9, 2.2, 2.7, something like that. I should at least be getting 4.

8.9 megabits per second

Communications 8.9 megabits per second
Storage 1.1 megabytes per second
1MB file download 0.9 seconds
Subjective rating Unbelievable

I should be getting 9.2 🙁
I thought you should be getting 10?

When you reach the 10/1 speeds I get with OOL let me know. We are supposed to get 20/2 starting in October.
I really can't see why you'd need 56Kb/sec.

hmm, sounds like just a few years ago. and yet now you probably can't imagine life without what we currently call broadband.

Actually, TBH, I don't use newsgroups, BT rarely crosses 100 or 150 KB/sec, and I think once you have even 768k DSL, web pages load plenty fast. I was fine with Comcast's 1.5 Mbps two years ago when I got it.

So you only get upgraded if you also have the TV cable package? When is this coming to Cali, we're always the last ones.

Bah.... I still get 3.5 - 5.0 mbps...

Nothing near the advertised value...
Only thing I care about right now, PING...
Counterstrike lags with comcast so bad...
But there are no better ISP's in my area unless I pay over $100.

Congestion and overhead I guess. From usenet I usually run around ~1100-1200k/s sustained.

Just tried grabbing something this morning. Download went to 818Kb/s and settled at around 770KB/s. Very interesting...
