When you talk streaming using gigabit or high speed connections. You really need a wireless AC connection. Even in a best case scenario I cannot see sustained downloads higher than 400mbps via wireless AC. At minimum a 5Ghz wireless connection. I stream via wireless AC for my 4K tv. Never a glitch or stutter.
I have everything wired personally. Even when the TV's NIC is 10/100 Ethernet and supports 802.11ac I find the picture ramps up to 4k more quickly when connected via Ethernet instead of wireless. Streaming never gets close to 100Mbps.
People often compare bit rate to blu-ray encoding and stream rate. With streaming today it is adjustable and software based that is not set in a standard like DVD or blu-ray. I have heard of streams for 4K in the 15mbps-25mbps range on the high end. I will say the sound on blu-ray is superior to any of the sound I have heard on streaming services.
