My connection speed REALLY slows down when a bunch of people who share my "node" all are on at the same time which unfortuneately is about every evening. Actually there are slow times during the day too as I live near some business who share my node.

It does suck !

For me Comcast is a bit patchy at times (tempted to blame my router) but besides that it works great for me.

Right for their own pocketbooks & shareholders, sure.

They screwed up the conversion from the Roadrunner ISP system to their own in Southeast Michigan back in 2002 so bad they ended up having to shell out over $80 million in free services to people from Ann Arbor to Detroit or face even worse fines from the State. A year after the conversion, the Ann Arbor nodes would still be overloaded by 75%-85% during peak usage times; all the while they continued to run promo offers to UMich students - in other words, they were expanding their customer base well past their network's capacity without any regard for anything other than $$$. At the time I was spending a lot of time doing research (or gaming, hehe) on the internet, and kept track of the outages - it was so bad that in December 2003, there was a total of 18 days of outage.

After months of constantly calling and complaining (and usually getting my cable internet fee waived entirely), I finally just switched to DSL. I've not had to call SBC, ever.

I live in Michigan and Comcast has really been a disaster here. Unfortuneately for me I had even worse problems with SBC aDSL and ended up moving back to Comcast. It's the lesser of two evils for now. :brokenheart:
