I just picked up a digital reciever cable of recieving HD from Comcast for the extra $5 a month.

I want to hook this up to my HD TV and didn't realize that they included Componant Cables with the box.

They look kind of think with gold coatings on them and an off white cable covering.

How will these compare to aftermarket mid level cables by say Acoustic Research, Monster or whatever. By mid level i mean $25-35 componant cables

Im not serious about Monster Cables. They are the most overpriced pieces of crap ever. I WOULD NEVER BUY THEM!!!! I just listed them as an example those 2 manufacturers were the first that came to mind

It is very unlikely you could ever notice a difference between ANY component video cables.

I didn't like the ones comcast gave me, so I just used a spare I had. The comcast ones were not a great fit and seemed to wiggle a lot

There have been studies that show the difference in audio quality between high-end cables and low-end cables are not noticeable. In fact, it was shown that lamp electrical wire was better than speaker wire, so save your money.

I doubt you'd ever notice a difference, but I bought an insanely burly component cable from Blue Jean Cables, which seems excellent for the money. I can imagine there might be a perceptible difference with a nice component cable, since it is, after all, an analog connection.

I use Acoustic Research component video cables from my HD DVR to my 2405 and things look great. I'll try the generic Comcast-provided cables and see if I notice any difference.

Not much difference. I felt like the brand name cables gave me a tiny bit sharper image, but that could have been anything.

I got the same off-white component cables with my Charter HD box and had issues with them. The connectors didn't fit tightly on the jacks, causing intermittent and annoying picture issues. Once I swapped them out with better ones, the issue was gone. They don't seem to be of very high quality.

I bought cheap a$$ speaker wire at Home Depot. 14 gauge for my rears. Inexpensive and just as good as anything else.

Oh, with speaker wire, one thing does matter (no matter what oscilloscopes say and other BS testing equipment). Wire gauge. Bigger is better and will sound better. BOTTOM LINE and this is from experience. You get clearer highs with thicker (lower gauge) wire.

I havn't enough experience with video cables to comment. Obviously HDMI/DVI are better than S-video and Compoennt. Didigital is lossless. Can't argue that.

Open the cable box up and look at the wires that connect to the component connectors. See if they are any kind of fancy, overpriced wire.

Then do that with your TV, receiver, and DVD player, and speakers.

See if any of them have anything other than plain old copper wire inside.

That'll give you your answer.

I'm using the cables that came with my Comcast HD DVR and it looks fine really.

There is no way you'd see a difference IMO.
