Comcast speed upgrade?

I just downloaded an entire Ubuntu 9.10 ISO via http download at 1.5 MB/sec and I don't have business class. The first ~50 MB downloaded at 2.5 MB/sec.

They haven't said anything about faster speeds so far... anyone know if they're upgrading their bottom tier Internet service or something?

pretty much you have 15 with 25 powerboost. i get 20 sustained with 22 powerboost i'm on the +$10 tier.

when you go to docsis 3.0 modem (assuming they are in your area at 3.0) you will hit 50 meg down then drop down to 25 meg. or just buy straight up 50 meg.

they don't cap neighborhoods that aren't too busy

huge price difference with the 50mb though...I have had the 50mb connection for almost a year now, and it's been rock solid. I never seen tests below 51.

They have been upgrading areas to DOCSIS 3.0. Areas that are upgraded get a speed boost. I think you were 6/1 before, now you are 12/2 after the upgrade. You are a little on the late side, a lot of major areas have been upgraded for months now.

Only if you upgrade to that speed, which costs money. Buying the modem will not give you a speed upgrade.

even if you are docsis 2.0 you change your modem to docsis 3.0 - no plan change - you will see powerboost to 50 - at least around here.

That is just the gamble of your area... Sorry to hear that yours sucks. I'm in a Philadelphia suburb (on the New Jersey side), and have great internet connection with Comcast. So much so that until someone offers full 100mb to the home that I don't have any reason to change.
