Comcast screws me again

This morning, coincidently the morning I have a Comcast tech come out to my house to replace my digital box, Comcast has put in to effect a new service charge. If you have anything wrong with your digital box whether it be their fault or yours, in my case theirs, they're gonna hit you with a $39.95 charge per box to replace it.

If you choose not to pay that fee you have the option to subscribe to their new service plan which is $2.99 a month. It does include replacement of all digital boxes if problems occur and various other technical problems.

The problem that I have is that I had them come out today to fix their problem of giving me a faulty digital box and now I either have to pay them $40 to replace it or sign up for some service plan that I don't want. Also, the box they replaced my old one with won't even broadcast my HD channels in 1080i like it's supposed to.

Good thing I signed up for the service plan! Otherwise I'd have to pay them $40 to come and replace this one.

How's Direct TV?

yeah, just switch to satellite TV if you don't use them for internet

I do use them for internet. :(

Satalite packages are pretty cheap...and my comcast bill kept growing while I had them. How much would it cost just for the internet?

Wow that is just silly. All "service" should be included in the monthly bill.

Ridonkulous...

Thats what I was thinking. Maybe the charge is for them to change it for you, not to replace the box.

The technician himself mentioned I'd be better off with Satellite. That's so bad.

He was also cool enough to print me off a copy of the service plan guide that he recieved this morning. They were even given a Sample Script.

"Mr. Smith, as you were previously informed, unless I fond the problem to be outside of the house, you will be charged $31.80 for this visit. However, I can waive this charge for you today by signing you up for our Service Protection Plan which is only $2.99 per month and will cover today's visit as well as any future visits."

When can you cancel the service plan after signing up? I'll assume you can't just get one months worth to resolve the issue.

when i got an HDTV and tried to upgrade to the HD box they kept messing up my account. Each time they "fixed" it there was an additional $2.50 "service upgrade" charge! They ended up trying to get me to pay $20 in fees because THEY kept messing up the account.

I have direct tv and use Comcast for local TV and internet...that's it. So my bill is $51 a month from Comcast. I don't have to worry about boxes or anything else because it's standard cable.

Not considering any options here. Just trying to let people know about this before they have someone come out to their house to replace a faulty digital box and get charged $40.

They failed to let me know anything about this before I scheduled the tech to come out and replace it. I pretty much had no other option but to sign up for the plan.

I wouldn't pay the friggin 2.99 service fee. Why the fuck would I want to pay Comcast to fix/replace their own equipment.

I already signed up for the plan and I have them coming out tomorrow to replace the faulty digital box they gave me today.
