Problem I see with Comcast, at least in our area, is that jitter is stupidly high. Like, REALLY high. I see jitter over 40ms on average from some of my Comcast customers in this area.

I'd prefer 20mb with much lower jitter.

The caps are there because that speed of Internet access makes their other services redundant. Just add Netflix or Hulu and you could effectively get rid of your cable TV. Installing artificial barriers makes sure you have to keep paying that $60/mo on top of that for all your premium movie channels.

This is a pretty silly thing to say. Netflix/Hulu is NOT a replacement for your typical cable tv package. Even if all the shows/movies from all the channels were available online, watching those shows one or two days after they air is not the same.

That's weird becase I'm pretty sure the comcast business internet connection, which has no bandwidth limit, is something like $150/month.

$60 for 12Mbps/2Mbps12/2, $100 for 22/5, $190 for 50/10 and $370 for 100/10. All are uncapped, and for the service by itself. The lowest tier is what I have now as a consumer, and costs $10 more. I should probably switch, because I pay $104 for cable voice and internet and I don't use cable or voice. I don't have any phones hooked up, and my cable boxes are in my closet gathering dust. I checked last week that my address is available for business class hookup.

Jitter goes way up when everyone signs up for DOCSIS 3.0 and tries to watch netflix HD and suddenly all that oversold capacity(?) just does not cut it. It's like Butch driving the five ton up a steep slope without downshifting! D:

Speed is to quality network as watts is to a good sound system. What good is 1000 wpc if you have 25% distortion? That's what you get with Comcast. That connection is like the annoying fuck driving around a POS Chevette with a "1000W" pyramid amp and "bass tubes" playing techmaster PEB or some other electronic shit at 140dB which is distorted pig shit.

Honestly I'd rather be on a "slow ass" T1 with 1ms jitter and sub 5ms ping to the first several hops. (at least for VOIP, gaming, etc.) If you're a whore of P2P the high bandwidth high jitter should do you better overall.

Comcast is a shit tank company, right up there with Best Buy and Bank Of America. Their HD sucks too compared to Dish and FIOS as well.

What really grinds my gears is that we pay $70/mo for Comcast internet and basic cable, and $30/each on our phones for internet.

So we're paying $130/mo for internet.

That's upsetting.

Well, if they really want to change to the electric company way of billing, then give everyone a 100 Mbit connection and charge only per GB. Of course, they wouldn't make any money off of Grandma and Grandpa that way, so they charge for usage and for service tiers.
