anyone on this forum that has comcast @home and is in the process of being switched to the new comcast.net network, please post your problems here!

I have been down for several days, using the AOL DSL service in the interim.
I also cannot get a hold of their tech support people, because they keep disconnecting my call. I can call at 3AM and still can't get through.

anyone else with similar issues??

Damn. Wish you hadn't linked that forum, because I see confirmation of no newsgroups. That really, really, really sucks. I use em all the time. The third-party places are so damn expensive, because I do binary groups and text groups. When I get switched, I'm going to go on my own personal letter writing campaign.

I live in NJ, and I had some minor problems with them. First of all, DO NOT INSTALL THAT CRAPPY SOFTWARE THAT THEY SEND YOU. They keep stating that you MUST install it for your connection to work, that is simply not true. I tried installing that crap and it fuxored up my computer really nicely, I had to go into safe mode and uninstall it. I have spoken to the Comcast tech guys about this one, they said the software does nothing except personalize IE and install other crappy programs. All you need is your new email info, and change the mail settings in your email program. The new mail server is mail.comcast.net, I believe the smtp server is smtp.comcast.net, either that or mail.comcast.net as well.

My server was officially switched over yesterday, all I had to do was power cycle my cable modem and it was fine, I dont think it matters what your Network ID is anymore, but I havent changed it.

i unfortunately had to install that CRAPPY software they sent me on my main computer, and it totally screwed me over. and to top it all off, i can't get rid of their Comcast branded IE and MS Outlook logo.

Does anyone know how to go back to the default IE6 spinning logo???

BTW, i still am using the old @home email servers because i still need access to my old email msgs. the new mail servers will not send your @home mail to the comcast.net email servers once you switch over.

Well, I was mediaone, so I doubt I could get into the @home news servers, and if I could how long is that going to last.

I'm ok with no newsgroups cause its been awhile since I've used them, but the speed cap is what is going to piss me off to no end, inside of 6 months they will have increased my bill twice, capped my upload from 1 meg + to 128k and the download from 2800+ to sub 1500k, very lame.

Well in mid January you should be able to setup new email addresses.

I'm finding that their dns servers must be overloaded or something cause it takes forever for me to get to any pages out there. Half the time it gives me a DNS error so I have to refresh and wait for like 2 minutes before it even recognizes the address.

EDIT: I also cant get to some web sites, like www.counter-strike.net, if you check the dslreports forum, a lot of other people cant access a lot of sites, like gamespy, hardocp, etc.

any sites hosted by verio.net, you cannot get to. it looks like the comcast people are trying to give us half the internet for a premium price! :|
