Did they tell you what their per month download/upload bandwidth cap is?
Maybe this is a new plan with a capped bandwidth seeing that they have
randomly been canceling people who download too much without ever
telling anyone how much too much is.

Hey, did sb. else call and get the rate? I called and the CSR told me she had not heard anything like it and asked me to call back Monday when their marketing people in place.

i just called and asked if there were any special promotions going on right now. the rep asked for my phone number and then told me that the best he could do would to give the next 3 months to me for $19.95. he never heard of the deal specified in the first posting of this thread. i went ahead and took the 3 month deal. just thought i'd let you all know in case it helps you in some way.

Are you a current subscriber, or were you signing up for new service?

FINALLY, high speed internet affordable again!
Comcast High Speed Internet
highest speed available too (per customer rep)
Is that highest speeds for broadband, or just for cable? 🙂 Because SBC DSL has 6mbit down, 608k up for $45 a month.

I have relatives looking into broadband right now, so I'd be interested in confirmation of this deal.
I would call (or have them call) and make sure this deal is availible in your area. Also see if SBC DSL is availible too, they are running some specials.

As well, be aware that if you download insane amounts of stuff (100-200 gigs or more a month) comcast will kick you off because of the invisible download cap they have now.

Comcast has 3mbit down and 256kbps up. awesome if ur paying $20-30/month + no contract (always a bonus).

I'm not sure if the 100-200gb invisible cap exists elsewhere, but i've downloaded >150GB for the month of february and this is about how much i download per month for over a year already and i havent encounter any problems.

$34.95 for 1.5mbps
The newsgroups service makes it all worth it though 🙂

Except the fact that they dropped 8 newsgroups.

Unfortunately, I'm too far north for SBC, but thanks.

No luck for me I called it took the guy like 3minutes for him to bring up his so called "tools" for to be able to see if any promotions were in my area. When he got back on the phone he told me they had a 6 months $29.95 offer for new customers only and there were no promotions for exisiting customers. I then told him I thinking of cancelling and order Bellsouth he says hold on the line for another 45secs while he got some special code for me to call in if i decided to cancel(I was only joking). So all that and I didn't get any discounts.

No luck here either... (Metro Detroit, MI)
The guy I talked to said there was nothing like that in the system and there were no annual contracts that I could sign either.... This sucks! I pay over $80 for basic TV and internet... and if I got rid of TV, internet would be $61... :frown:

you should read broadbandreports because someone who said they downloaded 60-65gig said they were cancel because they downloaded "too much".
Also there was an article saying comcast claims unlimited means no per minute charge not bandwidth.
Cox Cable has a cap of 30gig per month.

On a side note, I did get a $8 /month discount for 6 months on my cable tv service. It's better than nothing I suppose.

Yea, this is what they gave me last week when I called. I'll take it though...

I'm seriously thinking of switching to cable modem. Combined with vonage, it'll be alot nicer being verizon free.

I just got off the phone with Comcast. I live in Cupertino (SF Bay Area) and have extended analog cable + high speed Internet with them. The rep was really nice and told me that the $29.99/month deal was only for people who currently have DSL and want to switch over. I pretty much believed him because he read me the deal verbatim twice. He told me there were 3 other deals in my area and said he would do me a favor by giving me the option of choosing between the following 3:

1 month for $1, then it goes up to $42/month OR
3 months for $19.99, then it goes up to $42/month OR
4 months for $26.99, then it goes up to $42/month

I picked the 3 month deal. Like I said, he was really nice and I didn't get the feeling he was lying to me, but who knows. Anyway, I would have much preferred the $29.99/month for a year deal, but I'm not going to complain, since I will be saving myself about $60 for a 5 minute phone call.

Thanks OP!

Just got off the phone with Comcast rep, was given $5 off the monthly bill for the next 12 month. Oh well, better than nothing I guess. Northern California (Sunnyvale) area.

Ok, so to sum this up, correct me if Im wrong.
If you are in the bay area and have dsl, you can switch to the $29.99 cable modem internet deal described by the OP....
Correct?
