Ok whos got hdtv?

Im thinking about getting this but i currently dont have digital cable. Do i have to sign up to digital cable and to get hdtv? And if i do sign up to digital cable i want the cheapest plan possible just to receive the hdtv channels. Is the cheapest plan have no hbo and other movie channels or are they included with any digital cable subscription?
 
I have direct TV. I have a 52" HDTV. I was considering getting the HD channels but it looks expensive, so I am gonna wait a while.

The Teevee kicks azz for games of any sport, and moves DVD movies are incredible. It also has a hook up for my puter and I am running a 256mb video card in this puter, so I am really tempted there too.

i have comcast hdtv and i really enjoy it, we have abc, pbs, hbo, espn, showtime, and a couple of others. i cant wait for them to get all the locals in hd, its awsome
 
Yea it does look awesome with a nice tv, but my question is whats the basic digital cable package? Like the cheapest one you can get...Do you get any movie channels with that?
 
Not all areas have the same channels. it depends on your area. but basicly, the lowest digital cable package would include the all the non pay hd channels (abc,nbc,pbs,espn,and fox, where available). and it runs around $57. But comcast is currently doing some promotion where you can get the silver package for like 29.99 which includes a pay channel (with HD). you best way to get the eanswer is to go to comcast.com and read the faq's, or even better call you local comcast location and ask them. the website can be very generic when it comes to specific location information.

by the way comcast does not charge extra for hd channels. all you have to do is request an HD ready cable box when the guy comes to your house.

Generally you don't have to sign up for Digital Cable to get the HD versions. I didn't. Comcast charges a little extra to rent the HD box- you get the local HD channels for free with that. Then you can order HBO/SHO "a la carte'" and get their HD versions free. Then there are some other HD channels line ESPN-HD and INHD which I get by purchasing the $5/mo Digital Classic pakcage.

So all I'm paying for is basic cable $6/mo and Digital Classic- $5/mo, HBO $13.95, SHO $12.95 and the cable box for $7.95.

Comcast does charge extra for the HD channels, but it's only 5 bucks. Here in Central California they're currently carrying the local ABC affiliate, ESPN-HD, InHD, InHD2, HBO-HD, and Showtime-HD. Being able to watch 2 NFL games per week in HD makes it all worth it 😀
 
possibly a stupid question, but anyway...

my father gave me a call and said he was getting digital cable. he's got an HD-ready TV (i gather these TV's don't have the circuitry that decodes an HD signal). now, is an external decoder box needed (i know this was the case a year or two ago) or are the new comcast boxes able to decode the HD signal? thanks.

Comcast will supply a hd ready decoder box at your request.

yea so far ive got abc, nbc, fox, espn, and i had teh premiums (hbo and showtime) but cancelled those.

it will be pretty good when all the other local stations are shown in hdtv (waiting for cbs and wb).

oh and i also get inhd1 and inhd2 which sometimes show cool stuff.
 
Thats a lot of money to spend on something you just sit on your a$$ and watch... I get tired of having to sit at a damn computer all day at work as it is.
