Comcast DVR vs DirecTV DVR

We currently have Comcast with the HD DVR. It pretty much sucks.
You set it to record only new shows and it records all shows. If you delete something after watching it, it will record it again. Plus the signal drops out too much.

We are moving and I am looking at other options. I had Dish a year ago so they'd probably rape me on install as I am a previous customer.

No U-verse available, SureWest has no HD so we are looking at DirecTV.

Anyone used both the Comcast and DirecTV DVR and have any comments?

Directv DVR is light years ahead of comcast.
I have the HD DVR and it records only what I tell it to. Can record two channels at once, and has dual live buffers so you can flip between two channels and forward/reverse on either channel .
Also has network support that allows you to watch what is on the dvr on any pc in the home or stream content from the pc to the dvr for things like divx or avi files.

I've used all three. The Comcast DVR does indeed suck, the only thing that kept having service with them tolerable was the On Demand content. The DirectTV DVR units are indeed nice units and in general easy to navigate and use with some nice features. I prefer the Dish DVRs when it comes to the guide interface but that's personal preference more than anything. I wouldn't completely rule out Dish though. If you've been gone for over 6 months and left without owing a balance (I'm sure you paid your last bill in full) you're likely eligible to come back and qualify for existing customer promotions. Nothing wrong with going with DirecTV, just didn't want you to rule something out that may still be an option.

We have no issues with Dish. We paid in full and sent the receivers back. It's been right at 1 year. We had just upgraded to the 722 and then moved and switched to Comcast to save on Internet.
Now I am looking at going with SureWest for phone and 6 MB DSL.

Edit
Shot an email to Dish to see what they will say.

That's 3 months now. And you're right, as long as the account wasn't charged off to collections, you can definitely get free installation with a 24-month commitment.

If they don't offer you anything, just sign up w/ Dish under your wife or someone else's name. They don't bother checking for such things.
