I currently have comcast internet/tv. Trying to get my bill lowered so I decided to add their phone service. Problem is my modem is located in a place where I have no telephone line near it. So I told the rep on the phone I needed 2 modems. Installer came out and found my signal strength is not strong enough for 2 modems so my only choice would be to run a phone line near my modem and change my trusty old surfboard modem out with one that does phone and internet.

Any disadvantage to doing this? I definitely don't want my internet speeds to suffer. Anyone know what current modem they are using
?

Just get a set of these 3 handset wireless phones

The base unit plugs into the modem, and the other 2 handsets are wireless. At my house, the base unit is in the kitchen, with a wireless unit in the living room and 1 in the bed room.

No need for more than one modem. I don't even know how that would work. Just rewire the entire house to meet your needs.

I have almost that exact phone system (slightly older model). But the modem still needs to plug into a telephone wall jack, right?

Since I didn't have a phone outlet near my modem that was my only choice as far as I understood.

I can get a new phone line dropped in my network closet so I think that's the easiest way.,

You do not need to do all that. Plug the base unit into the modem, and the other 2 units are wireless.

I posted a link to an example wireless phone unit at wal-mart, go read the description.

My phone system baseunit it plugged into my vonage unit, the other handsets are wireless - no wires needed.

I read it and even posted that I have almost the exact same phone system. I have been under the impression (by what comcast told me) that I would have to have a wire going from the modem into a wall jack. Now that I think about it, I am guessing that would be so the other jacks in the house would work.

Wonder how the reception would be since it would be in a closet on one far end of the house.

Just don't plug in any phones at all if having phone service lowers your bill.

Unless you still have land line phones right now I guess.

The only reason to plug the modem into the wall jack for telco, is so that it will then feed the dial tone to all the other telco jacks in the home. This is for wired phones only. If you use the wireless phones, it is not needed. All phone jacks are just one big parallel circuit.

I gotcha. AS I said, I'm just going by what comcast told me. I know, not a smart thing to do but I've never had/used anything other than ATT, etc. Actually I wish we could just get rid of our land line but for the first two years we'll be getting a decent discount so it won't really cost anything over what we pay for our cable/internet. Hopefully by then FIOS or something else will be in the area.
