Too lazy to copy past the article. Comunestcast

So they're proposing a 250gb cap per month. $15 for every 10gb over that.

I think comcrap is the only company going the complete opposite direction technology wise. With streaming media (movies, tv, music,) and online gaming becoming more popular, this stupid cap will cripple all of it. Absolutely ass backwards.

250gb a month. God I'd love to have that. Cox has a limit of 30gb a month here.

Not now, no. But what does this do to future media? Do companies like netflix and MS just say "screw it" since nobody will be able to use their service without paying $10000 a month to the ass-rapers over at comcast?

And it is the dumbest idea ever conceived by these companies. Instead of looking how to create a better service, these greedy bastards want to keep it the same and just kick people off to make it seem "better" for everyone.

Wow, that's actually really, really reasonable. As much as I hate Comcast, this is one of the only GOOD things I think they've ever done. Instead of having to worry about being shut off for hitting some unknown cap, you would actually KNOW how much you can use in a month, and it's a ridiculously high amount. They're not punishing the "power users" who might use 60 GB in a month - a 250 GB cap would really punish ONLY the abusers. You could stream Youtube and Netflix for hours a day and not hit 250 GB.

250GB is reasonable. As long as they don't go throttling my connection - it's been pretty shoddy at times ~8-10PM (huge pings and slow speeds and all I've been doing is playing Diablo II).

According to my router, in the past 14 days, myself and a roommate used about 11GB. When my other roommates come back (3 more), I figure in a months' time, it might hit 100-150GB tops if the numbers and usage stays consistent.

250gb seems very reasonable for me.. I would be surprised if I even used 100gb/mo

As i said earlier...the cap is fine for now. But what happens when we can download entire 10+ gb games and movies, stream HD tv, etc.

edit* also, I'd be fine with a cap if they refunded the people who use <5gb's a month. Which they will never ever ever do.

250GB per month? That's not too bad. Let's see...

That's ~ 8.3GB / day, or basically one filled dual-layer DVD.

I don't think I even download 4 GB most days, and I have no problem admitting that I pirate stuff pretty regularly.

As much as I dislike the idea of a download cap (slippery slope), that's a pretty good upper bound.

the cap will f*ck us.

Will we have a meter we can monitor at least?

Is it for ALL residential users?

EDIT : WOAH, looks like they are including upload into the mix ... from their article :

Upload 25,000 hi-resolution digital photos (at 10 MB/photo)

Even with very, very heavy downloading, I don't think I've ever come anywhere close to 250gb. I would imagine my highest would probably be around 150gb, when I was downloading crazily right before college (college has tight bandwidth caps).

As much as I hate limits 250 seems alright. According to our Websense the heavies user we have can burn about 1-1.5Gb on Youtube a day. How big are netflix movies? I cant imagine they are 4gb+. Even if they are thats 60+ movies before you hit your cap. If you can watch 2 movies a day everyday you need a job or a hobby.

250GB/30days = 8.3GB/day.

That's quite the streaming. You could do quite a with that much bandwidth, legally. Of course, high end photographers that upload tons of pics or videos a day, then they might get in trouble. But they might have a commercial pipe anyway.

I think that my only fear would be the slippery slope. It starts with 250, people are comfortable with it, then they drop it to 200, people adjust to it, then they drop it to 150, etc.

Who says they'll never adjust the cap?

Why do you care what other customers are paying?
