Check out Circuit City. Same terms (ie $19.99 for first 6 months) but you also get a $50 gift cert and get the $80 modem free -- instead of $105 rebate from Staples. The free modem saves ya 3 bucks a month also.

This deal has been around for awhile. They have been running 6 mo @ $20 since the beginning of June.
The "free" modems, of course, come after multiple rebates that may take 3-4 months to see. They have similar deals at Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, and through several websites, including getconnected.com and comcastoffers.com

There is a thread over at FW talking about how you might be able to sign up for this deal at more than one location and get multiple rebates. Of course you have to buy the modem more than once, but you can always sell it on Ebay.

I just got the $19.99 for six months deal last friday, good stuff for good service. Certainly beats paying 76 and change for my previous DSL

Where does it say you have to be a cable customer? I'm going to be activating both services at the same time so will I be able to get this?

Its in the fine print. The deal is for existing customers who don't already have HSI.

All of the stores use the "getconnected" database and require you to use an in-store or online web based sign up. I had difficulty doing this since my house didn't show up on the database, even after I had Comcast cable service installed. One of my friends ordered this deal through Best Buy after he had called in and scheduled the cable install. Since you have already signed up for install, check the websites below to see if you can get the deal.

I think that it's about time I jumped ship with my current dsl provider. the speed is so so, and it's relativly expensive ($60 a month for 768/256). The only reason that I've stayed with them is excellent uptime and they allow all the public IPs that you can switch. Thanks!

Promo still good at Circuit City as I just signed up yesterday and got basic cable installed today then got internet installed myself.

Comcast does charge $3 a month for modem, and $49.50 for install at least in NorCal. CC or Best Buy or Staples deals usually were $0 for install and free modem. Dont go thru Comcast directly, got to CC or Best Buy or whereever

Not so. The promotional offer is the same for subscribers and non-subscribers. Only the "normal" rates after the promotional period are higher for non-subscribers.

Check for yourself. Select "Comcast High-Speed Internet - Non-Cable Customer" from the list of available Comcast Plans. Same deal:
Promotional Savings:
- $105 Staples Internet Rebate on Comcast
- 1st 6 mos for $19.99/mo! Limited Time Offer!
Comcast does some kind of funky billing where, instead of a straight-forward charge of $19.99 each month for the promotional period, you are actually billed each month for the normal monthly rate, then receive offsets and credits that are supposed to bring the bill down to the promotional price.

I suspect it is done this way so they can assess taxes and surcharges based on the higher standard monthly rate instead of the promotional rate. I still haven't figured out our first Comcast HSI bill. There are several credits, offsets, and charges I don't understand. I'll have to call Comcast one of these days, wait 20 minutes on hold, to ask a CSR to decipher the thing.
