Combining a 4770 and a 4870 down the road?

Hey guys,

It's been a while since I've been involved in hardware...anyway, I remember "back in the day" that you could combine different cards in Crossfire.

Would it be possible to buy a 4770 now, then later down the road when prices drop some more snag a 4870 and enjoy the performance of both (obviously it doesn't scale 100%, but you get the gist)?

If combining differing cards is possible, what is allowed? I.e., 4870 and 4770? or only two identical/similar cards (i.e., 4870s from different manufacturers running at the same clock speeds.)?

Thanks.

pretty sure you won't be able to mix them... they're different base chips... u can mix 4870 and 4850, not sure about 4890 with either of those, even, tho...
