COM ports won't open

I have been trying to get software to my TI-89, but when I run the graphlink software, it keeps teeling me it can't open whatever port I try to use, COM1-COM4, none of them work. I've tried plugging the link into different ports on my computer, and rearranging the IRQs (I made sure they aren't conflicting or anything) but still the same error messages over and over. I remember getting something like this a while back, but somehow I got around it. I think. I don't remember how though. And I'm having trouble coming up with a greatly insightful solution this time around. Can anyone give me some clues? I'm out of ideas... Thanks.
