Many Americans celebrate C Day because they are simple minded and phrases "Santa Maria" interest them.

Columbus was a business man= bad man.

Well, he has a point. What Hitler did was an attrocity, but it pales in comparison to what the Spaniards did with the Inquisition and the Conquest of the Americas. Though Colombus was involved in the enslaving and killing of Native Americans (who really aren't native to America, funny huh?), and he was not the first to discover the Americas, he still made an important stride to the colonization of the Americas.

Great, like insulting a dead guy is going to help any. So he wasn't a missionary, big deal; it's no surprise that he (or that anyone in the world) wanted gold, and was willing to kill for it.

That is true, the Mayas had already been rubbed out of history, the Aztecs were headed that way, though the Incas may have survived.

You're an idiot if you believed that. I can't really see how they would 'exterminate' themselves when they lived in tribes that rarely travelled more than a few days away, and their weapons were still fairly primitive.

All business men are bad?

I guess Ayn Rand was right:

"Every movement that seeks to enslave a country, every dictatorship or potential dictatorship, needs some minority group as a scapegoat which it can blame for the nation's troubles and use as a justification of its own demand for dictatorial powers. In Soviet Russia, the scapegoat was the bourgeoisie; in Nazi Germany, it was the Jewish people; in America, it is the businessmen."

Yep...as a kid, I would read kiddie books about him and how great he was for discovering America and all that. Teachers, those books, etc would never tell of his attrocities so I was ignorant of it all. Now, I don't give a rat's ass about Columbus. It annoys me how history would forget his cruelty while continually raising new generations of kids who don't even fully understand their past.

Since most of you would not exist if Columbus has not done what he had done, I suggest those of you that are up in arms over Columbus Day slit your own throats as a form of protest.

EDIT: Besides, we all REALLY know Bugs Bunny discovered America. ;)

Since we would likely not be here if Hitler had succeeded, let's all protest the PRO-genocide sentiment expressed by ShotgunSteve and drive around with swastikas on our cars, and goosestep our way through town.

Why do people like you have to justify stuff like this? To use the Hitler reference again (hmm..there must be a reason why so many people are making a connection between Columbus and him), Hitler did great things for the German people when he was in power: bringing them out of sh!t poor poverty, stimulating the economy, creating one of the strongest armies from scratch, giving the people some pride after being thorougly humiliated by the treaty that ended WWI, etc. Now if a guy just told you Hitler was great for the above reasons, you would think he's an absolute retard who don't know jack about history. Getting the hint, retard?

I did not try to justify what was done, I am just tired of endless whining about the unchangeable past. Retard.

Citation? I've never heard this theory ever before, I'd like to see where you got that info.

The population numbers of the "natives" were declining rapidly by time Columbus came to the new world, their numbers were alot lower by time major settling occured. And Im sorry, a 150 year genocide? The indians werent an innoccent party either.

My last post has to do with my first one: that too many people don't know their own history. It's not "whining," the original poster was trying to inform people about what truly happened. Only dumbasses like you either don't know it, try to justify it, or just try to ignore what Columbus did. If you like to wallow in ignorance, be my guest. As for the rest of us, we like to be informed and knowledgeable...as opposed to forgetting facts and passing it off as "whining."

That's like saying one can't condemn the action of a rapist if that raping ended up being the one's creation-point.

Columbus did a lot of killing but, as with many things in history, the truth has been bastardized into something ridiculous that too many of the ignorant masses simply couldn't care less about.

And even if the natives were going to exterminate themselves (not saying they were), it doesn't mean it's ok for columbus to speed it along. That's just silly. Human kind is on a crash course with catastrophe as well, but it doesn't mean it's ok to nuke countries on your whim, because you're saving them time

Yeah, I know! I saw on the news that two thugs tried to rob this guy's house and hurt his family. Well the owner tried to protect his family and property and shot them. What an asshole!

Irrationality and ignorance seems to be unusually strong in that young one, Obi-Moral.
