Columbia or North Face?

So I have been to a few stores shopping these products. I'd like the anti-wind/water proof ones. North Face is about 30 bucks more money, but is it worth it?

Northface tends to be higher quality. That being said, I've got a Columbia 3-in-1 jacket that has been more than good enough for the past few years.

Don't know about Columbia but I have mailed back to North Face my mtn light jacket when the main zipper broke, they shipped it back within a week replaced the zipper and even fixed a pocket that I hadn't even asked them to fix.

edit - now I remember, the Mtn Light Jacket, they just replaced the zipper. I also sent in my Denali fleece jacket over a zipper issue also(both jackets are probably 8 years old) and they replaced the zipper and relined the inside of both hand pockets(they had holes in them) without me even asking.

$140 on clearance, I only use it to ski though. I usually just use my cheapo 20 dollar columbia fleece for daily use.

My Patagonia jackets have held up very well for years. My wife has some Marmot stuff and it seems decent as well.

How much did you guys spend on your actual jackets?

Can't remember what I paid for my Columbia (I think I got it in 2005) but I wouldn't really think twice about spending $100 to $150 to replace it. If I found something I liked be willing to spend more than that. A good jacket makes life much more comfortable and it will last you years.

I used to laugh at people who bought north face, but my fiancee bought one and her zipper broke. She sent it in and they fixed the zipper and replaced all the down in her coat. Pretty good service if you ask me.

I own Columbia coats. I have one that has lasted several years and is still in great condition. It cost me $60 on black Friday. I have another that I paid $75 for at the Columbia outlet. However, after 3 years, it has begun to tear in certain places.

Their waterproof jackets are the same high quality but without the price markup of a NF or Patagucci....

cabelas jackets quality and patagucci quality are not in the same league. Try comparing a cabelas down jacket to a patagucci down jacket, it's like night and day.

Op, i would go with patagucci, mountain hardware, or arc'tyrex, you're a baller.

Their whole website is about how "environmentally friendly" all their products are. If I'm buying active outerwear, I want it to be as environment unfriendly as possible. The environment around me should actively avoid my coat. Snow should blow away from me in all directions, mountain lions should die if they come within 10 feet and the air surrounding me should stay at a constant 72 degrees.

We're not talking down jackets where there's so many variants of down cluster products with different exterior materials.

...We are talking about Gore-Tex....which BTW Patagucci prefers to use their own special (cheaper cost) in-house specialty. Many, many, many think Gore-Tex is better.

Gore-Tex is Gore-tex...aside of the thickness (denier) which is all pretty much the same...except for the price....and that's where Cabelas has the competitive advantage.

The Cabelas product will leave money in your pocket, with Gore-Tex legendary solidity to boot. :thumbsup:
