Back in May, I signed up for Columbia house and BMG and recieved all of the free cd ...... stuff. Being 17, I figured that I didnt have to pay this and that they could not do anything to my credit, since I didn't have any. I was wondering if anybody ever had any personal experience with this, and if anybody knows if they can actually do anything to my credit when I do turn 18 in January. I have been getting stuff from collectors, "pay or we will ruin your credit," but I don't know if it is just a threat or not. I know numerous people that have scammed columbia house, and dont seem to worry about it, but would like a little more feedback. Thanks a lot

P.S. I did not post this to get replies bashing me for not paying in the first place. If you feel that way, then please just look away from the post.

I don't think 403 is answering the same question you asked. You can not be sued for the debt, but that's not the same as them putting it on your credit record. They can still put it on your record while not being able to collect.

Oh yeah that's true...they might put it on your credit record. Of course, you probably did not give them your Social Security number, so you could still be safe. But they cannot collect the money from you.

Did you use your real name?

Yes, I did make the mistake of using my real name. Well, Matt instead of Matthew, anyway. I didnt give them my social security number though. So, they may be able to put it on my record when I start a record in January.

Why don't you just pay the goddamn bill & take responsibility for your own mess? Then you don't have to worry either way.

Still, I doubt you will have credit problems down the road. They don't have your
Social Security number (right?). Your credit record is tracked by your social
security number + name + bday + address (sometimes). The last is an ever changing
variable. The first three aren't. Obviously, many different people have the same
name & bday. You draw the conclusion.

I did answer your question. You wanna know whether or not you're responsible for your mess. Why not TAKE responsibility, whether you would have to legally or not, & get rid of the mess entirely.

Learn some manners, BTW. You're quite rude for your grand old age.

Thank you for your responses everyone, (except viper)
BTW, snake, you also should learn some manners. MEANING: when you read:

"P.S. I did not post this to get replies bashing me for not paying in the first place. If you feel that way, then please just look away from the post. "

In other words, act your grand OLD age. Maturity crosses all levels, so please, next time act mature and respect what the post says. I know that you are not in the minority in your thoughts(I know it wasnt mature not to pay, I dont need you to tell me), but like I said, I don't want to hear it.

When did I ever critize your actions? Do I support your attempts to rip off CD companies? Hell no. But all I did was offer you a sure-fire way out. A way out such that you'd never again have to worry about what it would do to your credit. I did respect what the post said.

As for my age, I'm barely older than you. So quit your bitching.
