Columbia Ballistic Parka $184 shipped at Fogdog

Not exactly tech, but the fabric is Omni-Tech.

This is a really nice Columbia Titanium interchange system parka (waterproof/breathable shell with removable fleece jacket liner). It's usually ~$330, but they have it for $229.99. I used a 20% off coupon that I found on www.dealtree.com. Shipping is free. Final cost: $183.99.

The photo is wrong (it shows a Columbia Icefield Parka), but you can check out the photo of the Columbia Armadillo Shell (no fleece) which is identical if you want to know what it looks like:

hi, blue-tip

nice find. I'm thinking about picking one up but before I do that, Could you or anyone tell me how's the quality of this jacket compared to those goretex ones made by The North Face? Thanks in advance.

Thats alot of money for a jacket! If your cheap like me (and I know ALOT of you are) then you wouldn't buy it. Otherwise its a great find! BTW whats so good about goretex?

goodoptics,

i have had columbia and currently have a TNF and both are extremely high quality articles of outerwear. Columbia is a very reputable company and has the same lifetime warranty that TNF has.

before you buy a jacket online i would recommend you go out and try it on in a store first.

You just can't go wrong buying a North Face Goretex or EMS Goretex jackets. Those things just rock. I bought an EMS Jacket, Pants and got Waterproof boots and when it rains, you never get wet.

i have a columbia snowboard jacket and it's has the Omnitech Ceramics coating for waterproof protection. in my opinion it's as good as gortex.

I definitely agree with Ogewo. Whatever you do try the clothing on first at the store, make sure that it's the right model, color and size. Scoff at the high prices, go back home and order it online saving 20%.

Order through eBates and save 5% which is an additional $9.20 off.

Final price $174.79

Hey, goodoptics, I'd have replied earlier, but I was out watching the Chiefs spank the Rams today. A darn fine exhibition of football.

Speaking of Chiefs and "what's so good about GoreTex", I sat through two Chiefs games a couple of years ago (Seattle and San Diego) during which it rained like the end of the world. My old Columbia shell kept me very dry, and because the fabric was breathable, I didn't sweat like a pig. That's what's nice about GoreTex (or Columbia's Omni-Tech, or Lowe's TriplePoint Ceramic, or Marmot's Membrain); it's waterproof and breathable.

I've camped, hiked, kayaked, shoveled the driveway, and sat through brutally cold and wet football games in my old jacket. Unfortunately, it was stolen (out of our stroller, no less) last week.

Ogewo is right; try one on if you can. I must've tried on 15 different jackets in the last week, and the Ballistic was my favorite, particularly at this price.

sweeet, thanks man!!
I needed a new jacket, all i have is a leather jacket(no hood) and an Army gortex (not good for dates)

sweet deal, got the blue one.

The only time I have seen a better deal on these is when i was in Korea, they were $120.

I have a Columbia Titanium shell and it is an awesome jacket. With the liner, these are heavy jackets, but they keep you very warm even in extremely cold weather. I paid $200 for both the shell and the liner 2 years ago. If you need a winter jacket, don't spend $100 or $150 on a cheaper jacket. If you can afford it, order one of these. They will last for years and are made of VERY tough material. Don't take my word for it, buy one and see for yourself!

I tried some on at Any Mountain yesterday! They are SWEET and seem extremely durable. They wanted $230 + TAX for just the Armadillo Shell! Ordered a blue one. Hope they have one to send me now! Cause I leave for a vacation in Switzerland next week!

UPDATE: I called Customer Service last night to make sure it is in stock, so that I will get it in time for my trip. Got a cool guy that said they are in stock and should be shipped today. Still says "Processing" for me though. FOGDOG is here in CA, but their stuff is shipped from the East Coast he said.

comm0dog,

I ordered mine Friday night and it shipped this evening. Hang in there.

You ought to get plenty of days per year to use that shell in Seattle, eh?

goodoptics,

I'm afraid I never really answered your question. The North Face has a bit of an edge in reputation among hard-core outdoor enthusiasts. I'm not sure how much of a performance difference that really amounts to. There may be quality and design differences that my moderate needs don't reveal, but which become critical on, for example, a climb of Mt. McKinley. I've heard that Gore-Tex breathes just a tiny bit better than Omni-Tech, but I've never had a chance to do a straight-up comparison. Columbia seems to be a better value for me. By the same token, that $30 jacket from Target will be just dandy for an awful lot of people like joecool222111 (absolutely no offense intended).

3 days later and "still processing".....wtf?

someone needs to kick their "processing" dept. in the arse....

Mine shipped tonight out of Harrisburg, PA. I ordered it Monday morning and I paid the $5 Expedite fee because I NEED the jacket for my trip to Switzerland next week! They sent it UPS 2nd day! 🙂
THANKS for the HOT deal, I tried it on at a store and this is a Top-Of-The_Line jacket!

UPS brought mine at 2pm yesterday! But then I choose the $5 EXPEDITE=UPS 2nd Day shipping option. It's exactly what I needed! I'm off to Yodel in the Swiss Alps with my Swiss Miss on Wednesday! Thanks for the deal!
