these are small stadiums. these are good for the area.

The mega stadiums for major league teams are a different story.

the pawtucket (RI) red sox are the boston red sox aaa team, but had been under a different owner. they have a nice stadium in the middle of town (home of the longest baseball game ever). boston owner john henry and other venture capitalists have purchased the pawtucket team from the old man's widow.

they're looking to move the team out of a perfectly good baseball stadium and into a patriots place-style megamall where you can piss away every penny you have, for a TRIPLE A BASEBALL TEAM. if they can't find a location in providence, they're moving the team. the impact on the local area will be devastating regardless of where they end up.

yep. apparently, minor league franchises actually create revenue for the town or city, and are almost always a good investment (assuming the team is popular, I guess).

Major league/top division franchises sap money, and always without fail.

That... that can't be real? Can it? That's freaking awesome.

For whatever reason, baseball team names in general are not meant to be powerful or dominant sounding. Think of NBA teams (Wolves, Bulls, Warriors) versus MLB team names (white sox, Cubs, Mets).

How bout the Rockies Class A-Advanced team?

Wasn't too many years ago, they were the Modesto A's...farm team of Oakland...then, affiliations changed...and they had to scramble for a new name.

As a child living in Farmington California, we had an 80 acre walnut farm. The team's name in that regard is indicative of the region.

Unlike the Portland Thunder AFL team, since there's never thunder here. Just rain.

How is that any worse than being named after pieces of clothing? And there's two fucking professional sock teams out there... so not only is it a stupid name, it's an unoriginally stupid name. With dumb shit like that out there they might as well have went with the Hartford Boxershorts or something like that.

Actually there are three teams.

The Cincinnati Red Stockings. They shortened their name to the Reds in 1889.
