Color banding in games

Hi,

I'm noticing some color banding in Crysis and other games, particularly in the sky where there are color gradients. I have a 9800GTX and a Philips 240PW 24" LCD with a H-IPS panel, and graphics is set to 32bit on Vista desktop(verified with a color gradient). What am I missing?

I've noticed it in FO3 with a 4870 512

I think it's just a result of a graphical effect and there isn't a technique that can sufficiently blend it yet. It's a complete guess. I don't really know.

Yeah, I don't know why the cant fix this . I notice mainly in night skies, I thought 32bit color was the solution...

Drove me nuts when i first played Crysis, like the original poster , i thought it was my setup.
After testing it on 4 different systems and monitors, i decided it was the game and not my setup and gave up caring.

It is BS though, for all we pay for the latest and best hardware, we're still stuck seeing what looks like 16bit color banding.

doh, so it's the games? i'm gonna go check out graphics card/game reviews and see if their screenshots exhibit the same problem...this really brings me back to my voodoo3/quake3 days 10 years ago with 16bit color...
